Anyone ever drive down to Puerto Nuevo in Baja California?

I'm looking at these directions (http://www.puertonuevobaja.com/directions.html) and want to know from anyone who has ever gone that way the condition of the roads.

Better to rent a car? Or can a lowered Beetle make its way down there and back without fear of hitting something that'll kill the oil pan.

Oh, and by the way, my plastic skid plate is long gone, and I have yet to purchase the coveted Dieselgeek skid plate lite. It is bare, naked, exposed, and vulnerable.

I just drove to Ensenada this past weekend and the drive on the toll road is safe. We got to ensenada in an 1 1/2 hours from downtown sd. Nice scenic drive. Round trip on the toll road is about 15 bucks. Road is fine in terms of clearence, you just have to be really careful once the toll road ends south of ensenada. potholes are your enemy but I saw many many slammed hondas in ensenada and they seemed to be ok. No broken plastic body kits or anything! :D

yea take the toll roads its kinda expensive :rolleyes: like $1 but its worth it. HA

but seriously getting into some of the lil town resurants in puerto nuevo may be tricky. just transfering from road to dirt thats all.

Don't Drink the water, and stay away from "Cheap Strip Clubs" on the way there....If you know what I mean. Be extremely careful for the haters...The ones that can't afford the nice stuff on our cars, the stuff we work hard to put on there, the stuff they like to rip off, if you so suddenly decide to go enjoy some lobster and a beer. Just some friendly advice.

drive down there shouldn't be a hasstle just make sure you dont try to park on the beach you will surely get stuck.. try the horse back riding when you get there its cool

I went down there one spring break with a bunch of fraternity brothers. We rented a big condo. One of the guys was drunk, saw some girls, and flashed them an obligatory BA. Within about 10 minutes there was a paddy wagon parked in front of our condo. The police had their machine guns out, had us all line up, and said that they were going to haul us to jail. I thought for sure we were going to have to pay them off with every nickel that we had.

Luckily one of my fraternity brothers spoke the upper class Spanish (I guess there are subtle differences for each socio-economic group) and sweet talked them. He saved our asses and they left with just a warning.

Not fun.
