Briefly:
A wireless "router"/dsl modem for internet sharing.
A wireless card for your laptop to connect to the "router"(if it doesn't have one built in)
A 6-pack for the geek you bribe to connect it all for you.

Sorry, I misread..
In that case, you'd need a PCI wireless card for your desktop.
In all honesty, with a desktop, it'd be easier and faster to just go get a few 100' of network cable and run it along the baseboard.

Well...
Infact, if you have USB on your PC, just get a USB wireless adapter... no sense on having to do the hardware work if you don't have to!
I like Linksys and Netgear products myself... and you can get a router from either to plug into your modem, which will then allow you to use your PC (and other computers) without any wires to them.
For instance here we have our cable modem (for this purpose, same as your DSL modem), wired to the wall, and my Netgear 802.11b router (in most home cases, you wont really see any benefit from the g type's speed difference, so don't waste the cash!)... the router then broadcasts wirelessly around the house...
We have 2 desktops with Linksys USB 2.0 802.11b wireless adapters... and I have a laptop with a Cisco 802.11b PCMCIA card which we can roam to any room (or the parking lot where the bugs are) with...
It's all pretty straight forward... longest part of your setup will be loading drivers for a wireless adapter... if you know what you're doing, config isn't hard at all. If you don't know what you're doing... PM me.
