Rant about all the sh1t that flies off trucks/etc and hits your car here
***
Yesterday, somewhere just north of SD County headed South on I15, I suddenly saw an explosion of small bits of paper ... followed by flying objects of some sort.
Magnetic tape was flying everywhere, a whole lot of it stuck to my car and was following by 20 feet or so .. at least it kept tailgaters at bay!
But in the storm of random crap, something else hit my car ... now my hood and the rear of my roof are SCRATCHED TO HELL
I don't care so much about the hood, as it already has an indent in it, but the roof pisses me off. Right when I was thinking about starting to keep my car clean rather than pseudo-rallying it.
But I'm sure a few scratches are nothing compared to the other crap people have run into ... post up your stories!

2' X 4' Metal grate - the kind used to filter cement before it goes into a cement pump...
Ripped my cooling pan in half, dented my exhaust and bent a crossmember under the car so far back that it was touching the exhaust... So my whole car was vibrating like a magic fingers bed.

When we were kids we used to put bricks in 24 pack beer boxes and watch people hit them on the street.
I kind of feel bad about it now.

With the TT...
A water-cooler bottle falling off a sparklets truck (thankfully empty)
A belly pan off a car kicked up by an SUV
A box falling off a communications truck
A cinderblock chunk after an SUV hit the solid block
A piece of sheet metal kicked up by a truck (two days after taking delivery)
and not on the freeway but significant...

Yellow Ford Probe i wish the city would do something about these. we pay enough in taxes.
1. a woodchuck @65 - he lived
2. a 6' long piece of 2" pipe off a truck.. blew out a tire
3. a mailbox while going sideways. (iced road in michigan)
4. there was a piece of tire from a big rig who just had a blow-out. it hit right on the edge of my hood and the headlight. no damage, but i had to scrub for days to get off the rubber streak it left
5. i hit a bird one time. at least i thought i did. when i stopped and looked i didnt see any feathers or anything. a week later i open the hood for an oilchange and he was pressed against the radiator.
6. window down, a hornet managed to hit headfirst into the window track, pressed in as well, but with my assistance he was freed to seek medical attention.
7. i had a bee on my windshield when i came outside from work one day. (bee's are always on my car) so i left him on there and thought that he'd blow off... not even @90 did he blow off.. he faced the direction of the wind, pinned his wings back and held on for the ride of his life for. 10 miles later it started to rain. bye bye bee.

I was behind a truck that was carrying a huge box of packing peanuts. Somehow it opened and it was like a friggin blizzard. There were millions of them. Maybe zillions. I can only account for the 40 or so that I pulled out of the front end of the car.

Ahh SoCal, there's tons of exciting stuff to hit here other than the deer in Arizona :D
To add a couple more, all I can think of that scared me was a piece of wood just north of Esco on the 15, heading back to AZ the day after Christmas. Didn't get a flat though, which was my only fear.
One time here in Carlsbad, in our old 1988 civic, we were comin back from a Pads game, came over a rise in the hill and saw a cat sitting eye-to-ete with a fat possum in the middle of the road. the cat ran, the possum didn't. the honda was so small we were afraid we'd break something.
i've hit my share of tumbleweeds and stuff too, no biggie though. In my apartment in AZ, we have a donated 5-foot by 4-foot Interstate speed limit sign that blew across in front of someone's truck in a wind storm.
If I hit something on the highway, it better be big enough to total my own car ... then again, shouldn't take much for a golf.

- a week later on the way to work some tacoma ran over a a pretty thick metal pipe that flew and hit my hood and windshield. (i had my hood fixed/painted at work free, but im too cheap to replace my windshield.. lol)

Cat
Piece of tire - Actually did that on purpose while I was towing a trailer. Stupid bitch behind me was riding my ass and wouldn't budge so I hit the tire, which caused it to fly up in the air and nail her passenger mirror which of course completely ripped it off. She backed off after that.
Tumbleweed
Had a ladder land infront of me then flip OVER my car without leaving a mark

When I was a kid, my dad, in his mid-life crisis car (1965 Mustang .. before his Benzo kick) ran over the skateboard of a family friend's kid ... the kid was pissed about his skateboard, but my dad (who freaks if you close the door using any part of the car other than the handle) was pissed that the kid left the board in the street and almost damaged his car.
that was in suburbia, not an interstate though.

Pebbles flying from the wheels of a truck.
Pebble-sized debris from open-top cargo trucks.
On the whole, been very lucky. So far.
