Is it possible for an R32 w/ a stage 2 vortex supercharger kit to acheive 180mph?
Despite the aerodynamic issues. My first thought is NOT!!! And, is the gearing capable? Please anyone

I would say no. Drag and the top gear I would say 160-165 tops.

I think it is very possible. I couldn't find any #'s for the 6 speed US version, but the UK 5 speed R32 (same engine) has a max speed of 153mph STOCK! So I would say that with an extra gear and a stage 2 supercharger, it's possible....

I second the 'no'. IIRC, drag increases exponentially with increases in velocity. The R32 is a good looking car, but it's shaped like a brick, aerodynamically speaking.

EXACTLY. It would take loads of HP to push what basically is a box, through a wall of air like that. It has been proven time & time again that aerodynamics play a huge roll in getting top speeds and that the speedomter, which people normally use to calculate these speeds, has been proven inaccurate the fater you go. I have someone claiming that this speed of 180, was acheived. Some of the top super cars in the world have trouble going that fast if they even get there. Ya know...

but what if you put on a big wing and the new west wings kit? that's pretty aerodynamic

HAHAHAHAHHAHH
oh man, I needed a good laugh.
If it is possible, it would be soooo far from stock it wouldn't be worth calling it an R32. The cheapest way would be to buy an Enzo and put an R32 badge on the back.

Maybe this can put it in perspective for ya....
A Honda Civic did 204mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats. It's gutted, aerodynamically prepared, and has an estimated 500 whp. A s/c'd R32 is nowhere near that, and I won't even mention the weight difference.

Mel's car could do it...
This is all butthole speculation. We don't have numbers and no one here has an engineering background that could figure it out.
But I say no way.
Only because you're talking about a higher top speed than a Modena. And I dunno about you, but I don't think a stage 2 R32 would handle an F360.

B.S.
550 is a great number, but it's not enough to overcome the drag at those speeds. Plus the AWD system saps more power than 2WD.
The article says "rated", it doesn't say they've actually done it.

207 mph??? (http://motortrend.com/autoshows/coverage/112_04_sema/index15.html)
i dont have a degree in aerospace engineering so i dont know much, but here is another site saying 207mph that is tuv-certified. (not sure what that is)

Wow. That site says 600 hp. I would have never believed it. TUV is a European certification body. If they say it's true, it's true.

Damn! 207!
I don't even want to know how unstable that thing must be at that speed. I think this is going to be one of those... just because it can go that fast doesn't mean that it should. I'm sure there is a reason besides aesthetics that all of the 200+ mph cars don't look anything like a VW golf.
I have no reason not to trust the numbers but seeing as how other auto makers have really had to work at that speed for years, its still hard to believe that they actually ever got a golf to that speed.
