Hey everyone. A few months ago I moved near questhaven. I have heard a lot of rumors about the area. Has anyone heard anything about a midget colony that lives in the area or other spooky stuff? Post your stories:

You talking about the Elfin Forest between San Marcos and Encinitas?

I remember looking at a house out there before anything was built. Anyways, you had to pass a rather interesting gray building on the right all tucked away, but was surrounded by a big gate and plenty of barbed wire.

I asked on a few occassions what the building was and I got the 'What Building?' or 'don't worry, nothing goes on in there anymore'.

I noticed that they rerouted the main thoroughfare so you don't even happen past the building anymore....

BTW, last I researched, I found it to be an Asylum for the Criminally Insane...

Guys, this isn't right. I mean, these people are just trying to find a place where they won't be bothered by insensitive people flying down their streets in their European cars and making fun of them for their size or religious beliefs. They probably just want to be left alone, and they certainly don't want to become a spectacle or your source of entertainment.
With that said, what shutter speed should I use on my camera, to get the best pictures while we're being chased?

I asked my wife about it, and this is what she said. (so you're right about the Wizard of Oz thing)

As for the midget colony people are talking about, that one person was right who said it was in La Jolla. A bunch of actors who played munchkins in the Wizard of Oz moved into the area. It was the stuff of legend, so people would try to get a glimpse of them, so they became very reclusive to avoid looky-loos. But the houses are not small, just the people in regular size houses. I haven’t heard about the munchkins in a while, so I think they have all died off. There were a couple left in the early nineties.

It's actually Mount Soledad. I believe that most of the houses have been torn down and rebuilt on. I have never been, but I have heard to look for the bridges on Mount Soledad and you will be there...

I live in Esco, near Questhaven/Elfin Forest. Ive taken my car out there to offroad a few times. As far as ive heard there is still a midget colony, and there is an insane asylum but its not used anymore. Not too long ago they found a dead body out there. I wouldnt go out there by yourself, Just the thought of your car breaking down in the middle of nowere with midgets and haunted houses. I was coming back from the beach one day, and I took a shortcut through there to get home, I saw a car in the ditch with the lights still on, completely messed up against a tree. some other people stopped, and we went down to check it out, and there was nobody in the car. probably a midget that couldnt reach the brake pedal. That, or someone tried walking to get help. Ill check it out, I know someone who knows were the colony is/used to be.

i was driving from esco to my house in san elijo hills (off RSF Rd.) and took elfin forest rd. did a little exploring and found what looks like an old run down butcher shop or something... pulled in and walked around and found myself at a fast walk back to my car... you get that feeling of eyes on you when your in the middle of no where... took my girlfriend there too and we both got freaked out... i suggest noone go there alone... i only went alone because i carry a gun at work and was still armed and on my way home... scary stuff, but lets definitly get something together.. who can find info or pics on the looney bin?

That place you are talking about was the old trailer park and their were a couple of houses back in their but they tore down the houses about 3 years ago when they built the new Dam up in that vally.
The Dam is completed now and full of water.

so there is nothing there now? i passed by today and looked through the fence and could see a definite road... but was not able to see what it led to. my M3 is still in the shop.. should hopefully be out this week. (already been a month.) i have a rental truck. a new F-150. not too bad. :)

I delivered cement powder to the dam project mentioned for four months straight and the "Elfin forest" mentioned has a plackard regarding the forested creek area and is supposedly protected. This was made abundantly clear by the project general in charge of the dam construction to the companies hauling construction materials into the site on the road mentioned. Supposedly the area is one of the earliest inhabited areas of southern California going back to the conquistadores and the padres that brought christianity to the valleys inhabitants. There are a couple of old ruins of dwellings dotting the roadside that are supposedly at least a couple hundred years old not surprising since the missions in San Diego are much older than that.

The road is very tight, windy and frequented by cyclists on the weekend and occasionally during the week and does have a creepy feel to it.

There is an old cement mixer accident site located on the north side of the road from when the area used to have some sort of mining or excavating going on fifty or sixty years ago.
I should mention that the locals are very protective of their quiet valley though it is quickly being encroached upon by new construction at both ends of the road in Escondido and where it dumps out on to the hills near the ocean. Just a little info that i am familiar with.

When you pass the egg ranch and make a hard left onto the road its perhaps a mile or so down the road as the road side gets steep on your right side you will spot a cabin site (old chimney) and i believe its just past that you can see the blocked dirt road ways going up the hill. There were signs saying no trespassing but deserves plenty of curiosty you will see the remains of the fifties era cement mixer upside down on the hillside. It has been three or more years since i have been there so things may have changed some what.

Oh and be careful when walking around the house structure the one with the rock chimney it had two wells that weren’t covered very good that would suck to fall in one of those!

You can go there in the day time and hear kids playing in the trees, even though you’re in the middle of no where. Go in the house and you'll here them running across the wood floors and opening and closing doors. The most freaky shit I've ever experienced.

The Elfin forest can be reached from the Del Dios or more easily from San Marcos off of Rancho Santa Fe, from the 78.

Midget town is on Mt. Soledad.

Here's one to trip out a friend next time you are headed south on the 805. Take the Mira Mesa/Sorrento Valley off ramp(gravity hill). Before you go up the hill of the off ramp (make sure no one is behind you, late night even better) throw it in neutral and enjoy the ride...lol

well i dont know if anybody responded to the directions to the miget town or what ever... but yea thats off elfin forest... i forget the name of the road but its a right off of it coming from the direction of like the sanmarcos entrance... you have to travel over a bridge like thing and then travel all the way down that road... ive gone there the last few days as entertaining as it is ive never seen a midget there.. but my friends have... my friends saw the white ghost lady once... they were sitting at the 20 mile an hour sign by the house off to the right if you are facing away from the turn around gate as if u were leaving quest haven... they were looking forward at the no parking sign and she suddenly appeared and ran her hand down the pole started to walk towards them and then fluttereed off... they say it was clear as day and she was only slightly transparent... as much as i want to beleive them i myself have never seen her... another strange thing i noticed is there are horse crossing signs on quest haven but the thing is there is fencing on both sides... so why the fuck are there those signs... but get this the white ghost has been been seen riding a horse... so u be the judge if thats coincidence... also i said i hadnt seen the ghost but i heard it once.. we were sitting at the same 20 mile an hour sign... when behind us a light kept shining on our car... maybe the guard at questhaven or maybe not... it came out of nowhere in the bushes, it followed us when we moved, it went off and on and every time it turned back on it would be directly on us not like a person trying to aim it at us... but while this was going on we felt like we were moving i thought we were and so did all my other friends who werent driving my friend driving was on the break the whole time and he even thought we were moving.. but while this was all happening we heard out of the right side of the car... a person saying either "help me" or "meow" at that point we got really scared cause we all heard it and we drove off but when we looked back... no cat or no person... and according to legend and other people they have heard voices out of nowhere also... so thats my whole deal... i will probably go back and i will share the rest of my experiences.. feel free to message me with questions...
