Ok so I was coming up the 405 today towards Costa Mesa going South bound and I see a WRX pull onto the freeway with lots of decals on it and I don't really pay much attention until its gets into the lane next to me then it jumps out at me!
 Gold Shield on the door, Light bar on top, shotgun in the center, the words Police on the front fender and a cage in the rear for passengers.
Car pulls past me and on the back it read "High Speed Interceptor" .
Has anyone else ever seen this car around Orange County?? I did not see if it was CHP or not but it was marked like a CHP car but I forgot to look closer as it blasted away from me like I was sitting still.

I wish you had pictures, but I believe it's one of Irvine Subaru's cars that was done up for SEMA last year.

Did not have time to get the camera phone out before it took off. Did Irvine Subaru mount shotguns in their cars? This one had an upright center mounted shotgun in the center next to the driver.

Me either... the only site I found that showed WRX police cars was an Australiain city but nothing inthe states. I know that there has been talk of making it a pursuit car by law enforcement agencies since most of the cruisers are getting to slow these days compared to the new cars on the market.

In Oregon I know they purchased an either lime green or yellow WRX for the Highway Patrol. Tinted Glass and all, as unmarked as you can get, until the lights start flashing. I wouldn't be suprised if the department had a WRX but i am not sure why they would mark it.

that'd be awesome..

I believe it. Back in the early to mid 90's there was a Saleen Mustang police car that used to sit near the bridge between Huntington Beach and Sunset Beach. Not sure which city it belonged to, but it was there just to tag people speeding down PCH. I used to see it all the time.
Someone catch a picture of this WRX cop car. I wanna see it.

It was a Mustang GT that belongs to Seal Beach. I think they still have it. I have seen a few CHP Camero's also.
dont use drugs kiddies, look at this WRX. i think it would make a poor pursuit car for an open highway, they dont seem like a very good high speed car too me. now chasing them duke boys and their shine on a dirt road is another story.........
I love the "no tax dollars used on this vehicle" sticker when I was a senior in high school, the DARE officer had a done up new SS Impala
Here are the STI's they have in Japan.

Different agencies expirement with different cars all the time. Some are DARE cars and for show only. Some are seized vehicles put into service.
Some, like this Volvo (you're welcome Lon) were put into service after Volvo approached CHP about using their cars. CHP said, "Give us a few to try out." They didn't like them all that much.
*edit*
Can't remote link the pics....so here's the gallery.

It was Ford pushing the idea, since it's a much more modern design ... and that Ford could make more money off each one over a Crown Vic.(*)
Likes included acceleration (modified T5's) and comfort. Dislikes was space (or lack thereof), servicability (and lack thereof), and cost. IIRC, fleet price was 19k for a CV, 23k for a S70.

* - if it weren't for extreme discounting, police, and taxi fleets, CV sales would be dead.

Building on PowerPuff's post, one of the reasons the CHP didn't adopt the Volvos is that that Volvo went and changed their lineup just as the CHP finished testing the car. From what I hear from my friends in the CHP, the Volvos were well received.

If I recall from the JGTC event, the WRX cop car has an upgraded turbo, turbo back and a bunch of other engine goodies. This Sunfire was also there.. I think Chris tried to sneak his car in the picture...

The WRX cop cars in Europe are sweet. I was watching "Wire in the Blood" on BBC America and they had a few on that show. Northern England I believe.

Knowing the fleet buyers going on the aspect of dollars, a good number would be the V6 version.
I know when the later Caprices became available with the 4.3L V8, they opted for 'em. Smaller municipal fleets stuck with the nicer LT1, though.

Well, according to the west coast testing people (L.A. COUNTY SHERIFFS) they are suppose to all be
V8's but whos to say with the cost of gas now???
