Yep, it is as easy as they say it is.
When you going to get the ECU upgrade?

You lucky Volvo people! You have decent places to get parts for your cars...not us pooor Saabers!

So lets see some pics of the wifes car there!

HAHA Doug you crack me up!
The rear hatch shocks are a PITA, you have to take of all the plastics on the top sides to get to them.
Do the ECU upgrade, your wife won't even be able to tell unless she floors the go pedal

aaa haa....I figured they were part of the hinge....I'll do the filter and motor mount this weekend....we'll see about the chip...only had the car two weeks.....I loved IPD by the way....super friendly site and decent prices......what more can I ask for..

So I did the drop K&N and the IPD Motor mount over the weekend.....what a huge difference that motor mount made....not a thirty minute job though.....getting the worn out stock mount was a pain...that took some time....but man what a difference and once that was out it was two seconds to put the new one in...IPD mount is like twice the size of the factory mount and way better quality....stock mount was totally shot....car feels 100% more stable in the corners and the front end feels much tighter.....next move strut tower brace......undefined

OMP strut brace == awesome (that's what I'm rollin' on)

edit: and the motor mount? That's so a 30-minute job... by your 2nd or 3rd time :p

you like the OMP better than the IPD?

We should actually start a thread to rate suppliers and dealers so we can steer people in the right direction when they are looking for parts and services.

That's what Volvospeed is for. Obviously. :p

Way better. First, I don't know about that design -- fuckin' wierd, and fuckin' ugly. Second, I don't care for the price -- OMP is like $110. IPD has some good stuff, it has some weak sauce, and it tends to be fairly expensive. I don't mind paying a premium for the good stuff, but the important thing is to know what's good, what's bad, and what's silly. Anyways, I didn't mean to launch into IPD... but surf around some, look at your options. There's also EuroSportTuning, VolvoMotorsports, and VPtuning (just to name a few other options).

I actually really like OMP products, I've pedals and shift knobs on my past three cars....I went to their sight but had a hard time finding the product.....Thanks for the references interesting the differences in product prices....Eurosporttuning had a good sight but a bit steep on the prices....I'll keep looking...I just think IPD is informative and so far I feel the pricing has been right, I got the K&N for $46 and the motor mount for $26....but I agree I definatley be price shopping...

Thanks again

Go with the OMP brace, you will notice a big difference.

Welcome to the Volvo aftermarket, finding parts at resonable prices can be frustrating at times:(

That is a true statement for all Swede's most of the time. Thats why its up to us to find new parts makers or start doing it ourselves!!;)

Oh so true. Then again, one has to look at it in the aftermarket manufacturer's perspective. Do you make and market your products to cars that are mostly sold to a conservative audience, or that of which sells many to an audience that likes "personalizing" their rides?

There was one Taiwanese manufacturer that does custom lights. I think the minimum order is like 1000 pairs. Honda/Acura - that can sell out in a month or two. Volvo/Saab - try several years, if not longer.

Thats why I am in the process of designing and working out the manufacturing of parts for some of the older gen SAAB's currently and once I get some stuff going for that I will start to look at the Volvo side and start from the 700 series and work up from there. It's all a matter of finding the right partners to do business with but that is so much work in itself!!

Well, take care of the Saab market first. The RWD Volvo crowd is so far managing to get by scrounging parts off other cars, usually from the junkyard 'cause we've got "like no money". ;)

That's exactly the problem. For years Volvos/Saabs have been safe conservative cars. I see the market changing though, I think it is because these same people have now moved on to newer cars and have "handed them down" to their kids. The kids on the other hand see "turbo" and instantly think of modding them. I can't believe the amount of teens that have joined volvospeed in the last year and a half or so, and in the same amount of time the aftermarket has started to grow.

These cars(850s,S70s) can make some decent power if done right, can be found everywhere and can be bought for under $8,000.
If you plan your mods well you can have a very good handling car with 280-300whp for less than $10,000

It seems that the phenominah of the young kid owning mom and dads old turbo Volvo or SAAB is something that is a fast growing trend. On SAAB forums I keep seeing the 16 year old kids that are getting there parents 1984-1990 SAAB 900's and 9K's and the first thing they want to do is get more boost!

As for hitting the junk yards for parts the SAAB guys do it as well but there are companies like MP Performance (http://www.mpperformance.com) (SAAB parts only) who are making good quality parts for a fair price unlike the price gouging crooks that are out there.

Now I would gladly start with the Volvo's if someone wants to give me one for free!!!

Is that new, though?
Where I come from, hand me down SAABs and Volvos were a regular thing, but maybe that's just because I come from Yuppieville.
heh.

It's new to me anyway. I am used to kids getting the hand me down Corolla or camry but not the Volvo or SAAB. I guess that must have just been a yuppieville thing from your neighborhood.

Want a '73 144GL? No smog needed, so you can swap in whatever you want. ;)

It's a full blown project car, however. It's been over a decade since it was on the road.
