BMW oil change...

I just called irvine BMW to get them to fix my left HID, thought i would ask abut an out of sequence oil-change, they told me $320 + parts.... WTF. i think i'll just do it myself.

not getting it done, its free every 13-15k i just wanted shorter intervals, i guess i might have to DIY it. I know a BMW mech pretty well, so i'm not too bothered.

Funny thing is (to me at least) a chevy dealer will do my Suburban's 7.4l big block oil change for 19.99 far less that what i can do it for myself. There's allot of oil in that beast.

That $19.99 oil change is a loss leader. It gets you into the dealer and then they hit you with "You know we suggest that every <insert your mileage here> miles you have your transmission fluid changed with our new system that removes 99% of the fluid instead of the standard change that leaves 25% of the old fluid in the case...it's only $129.99...".

lol, its done 400 miles since the BMW arrived 2 years ago, if they pulled that 99%/25% crap id say "throw in some muffler bearings and change my blinker fluid and we have a deal"

thats sounds pretty typical ...my shop charges 85 an hour for labor ...most of our BMW oil changes are around 170-200 parts are not cheap (oil filters are in the 15-20 dollar range) and BMW factory service books all say use synthetic oil ...after 6-8 quarts (depends on motor) things get up their in price

that price does sound a bit high for a dealer though, sounds like a service writter on commission

are we talkin dealer? I got a BMW shop hookup but i'm goin in for a non firing xenon issue AGAIN this week so i thought i would ask.

Is that a typo or are the oil change intervals for your car really 13k to 15k?!?

I say do it yourself. 1)it's fun, 2)you have a sense of accomplishement, and C) you know it'll be done right.
