Actually $199.99 with a 2yr contract not to mention you have to get a $30 data plan and that does not include txt msg the retail price for an iphone 3g 8 gig was $399.99 and the last couple of months went up to $499.99...you should make some research before posting buddy......

Actually you should check your facts because an iphone 8g 3G is $99 with a new contract and $175 early termination fee after 1 month. The iphone 3GS 16gb is $199 with new contract, and the 3GS 32gb is $299 which I just bought.
Normally I wouldn't post but you were being a jerk and you were wrong... So here's a little info. for you...
Here's the breakdown
Iphone 3G $99 + $30 + $175 (Early Termination) = (roughly) $304 plus some taxes for a Brand new not refurbished 3G iPhone and the other guy was right because the Refurb's are going for 49, That grand total would be about $50 less for a pretty much brand new (no scratches/scuffs) full warranty iPhone 3G.
Here's a link from AT&T's website (this link is from today not like yours from 2008...) GLWS

;) I was trying to be nice :D I didn't want to call out your prices as being a bit high. Unless it's a 3gs, which it's not because the smallest 3gs is 16g :(
BTW, you quoted an article from 2008.

i worked at AT&T in point loma (corporate store not authorized retailer) and if you cancel you iphone within 6 months it is considered fraud (dont ask me why i did not make the rules) and the rep that sells to you does not get payed the commission... so usually if a rep thinks ur gonna disconnect he wouldnt even sell to you, and he can actually bill you for the full retail price of the phone...
i guess all the world is wrong since people are buying them on craigslist for $350 all day long

Again, posts from June of 2009. We are currently in March 2010. 9 months is technology world is a long time, long enough to make those references you are using irrelevant. Plenty of technology releases have happened since then, with even more pending. That will devalue "old" technology in a heartbeat. Sad truth, but truth. :-/
If you feel like you are on the Vortex, then go sell it to someone on the Vortex.

Is it true that the 3G is more easily jailbroken/unlocked than the 3GS?

If you worked at att then you'd know that after the 31st day (Per ToS agreement) you have the legal right to cancel and only pay early termination fee's ONLY not full price of the phone. As for the sales rep not selling to you... that's BS, They run your credit, your approved you walk out of the store with a phone... They can not judge weather you are or are not going to quit in 31 days... Sorry bud Strike 2, I'm telling you all this because I've seen it done first hand.

Doubt it but if you sold it for 280 then that sucks for who ever bought. Chances are you probably don't like all the bad feedback and said it's sold, Either way you wrote
"so usually if a rep thinks ur gonna disconnect he wouldnt even sell to you" How in God's green earth would the rep know or suspect that? Nobody in their right mind is just gonna walk in say I'm buying this phone and canceling it next month... That's just stupid.

They Used to be more easily jailbroken, but since 3.1.3 came out apple updated the baseband so Jailbreaking is still possible but to unlock the phone for use with t-mobile that isn't working right now as far as I know, but I could be wrong.

How did this turn into such a hostile thread . . . members thought your prices were a little high, based on the prices we saw on the att website.
I do understand your point, and I do know that iPhones, sold outside of ATT are pricey. But your whole point of buying one from ATT for 31 days has little bearing on what we were talking about. Besides, why would anyone, having the intent of using a phone for 30 days, tell the sales person up front?
Just from my own experience, whether it is one off or not, I bought a 8g 3g, went back after 2 weeks, paid the 20 restocking fee, and bought a 16g 3gs. No hassle or anything. They even changed my plan back to what I previously had until I got my new iPhone.
Didn't mean to cause drama, and I hope you don't think I have some kind of bias against you or anything.

I was chatting with someone about that earlier in the week. They mentioned that people that do that do not get 3g service. Granted the phone is great, but without 3g, that would be torture!

The reason it turned hostile is because the OP was rude from the start and with responses as well. It's one of those things where I can ask what ever price I want for my item but I will not get more for it then what the market will pay, simple as that. I've been playing with iPhones since the very first one came out and for 280 the phone should have also been unlocked. Maybe a year or 2 back that was an acceptable price but now it's not realistic.

like i said the phone is sold wich was my purpose of opening this thread as for Dnc215 u can ebay an iphone and u wont buy it for $100. imo if your gonna say something negative about anybodys post you should do it via PM...:banana2: thank you all for your interest...

Why should I do anything via IM/PM? When you did not respond to people's comments/concerns in a proper manner or take it to IM/PM. I simply stated the facts which you claimed were lies so I provided proof. You allegedly "sold" your phone and I was answering or commenting on another person's post about the situation. That's all. I never said you can ebay an iPhone for $100 you obviously didn't bother to comprehend any of what was being posted about "New" phones and Prices.
Lastly In my humble opinion your a person that's trying to get the most money for the smallest amount of investment which doesn't make you a toilet but when you bash other folks for asking why your price was so high that Does make you a dirty immature toilet of a person. These forums are for enthusiasts and not for people to make money off of other people that don't know any better, I myself have been scammed and don't like it so if I can prevent someone from getting ripped off I'll do my darnedest to see that through. If that doesn't sit well with you... well then send me your address and I'll ship you a box of tissue's...
I'm not out to try and make friends with folks like you so I will not take something to PM/IM when you publicly put other people down all in the name of making a buck in a place where you should try and help people with like minded idea's and passions to get a head and prosper.

whoooooooooops.....did I go and lock this thread?!?
That's right, I did.
A FS thread is not a informational thread beyond the scope of purchasing the phone from the OP.
For any further discussion of AT&T and sticking it to the man vs contracts vs verizon vs etc etc etc.....please open a new thread of your liking and keep it friendly.
Cite sources to back your point and keep the thought process in your head "I am informing, not correcting"
