We'll i went to a family sunday outting and had breakfast. Was my mom and dad and my sister. Then hit up City VW to check out the new MK5 Jetta and Touareg. We then dropped by Mercedes, Lexus and finally got to San Diego Volvo.

Once we got there, my family was pleasantly greeted by Charles Mechura. Who asked if we had any questions and helped us out with general information. We started off checking out the XC90 T6 and XC90 V8. He offered to take us out on a test drive.

Review:

XC90 V8
Very powerful and smooth 311hp. Had great powerband and i though it was fairly quiet and still had a nice growl to the exhaust. We were packed with my family and Charles. The V8 pulled nicely on highway despite the additional weight. The interior design is fairly straightforward, but was not trend setting in comparison to the VW/Audi interiors. The front seats were overall comfortable as well as the rear seating for 3. The 3rd row seat is designed for children, which was a let down. Overall a great car for the money. Great overall road comfort even over a large bump test off Mercury Rd :)

V50 T5 AWD
I really liked this car. The interior was top notch, but still behind compared to the Audi interior. The seats and consoles were very clean and pleasant. The motor was excellent, but still did not feel sporty, but this was most likely due to the full load of 5 passengers. I believe a nice ECU upgrade would quickly fix this nice 218hp AWD i5 turbo. The rear seating was fairly adequate for 3 people. Overall road manners were pleasant and comfortable.

V70R
Good gosh, awesome awesome awesome. Pulled the fully loaded soccer mom wagon up to 110mph on the freeway without a sweat. Good thing i got a family that doesnt mind me speeding once in a while, because i did not hear any complains from my parents at 110mph :) I can also say the car is super stable at that speed. The ride was not overly firm even in the Sport suspension setting. The V70 chassis is extreme comfortable for 5. The luggage area is top notch for a car in its class. I wish i could own this car as my 2nd car.

Conclusions are that Volvo is doing a spectaculor job with these new models. They apparently will be releasing a new C70 replacement. The motors nice and torquey. The motor noise is well dampened. And i can say that Volvo is definitely top notch competitors in the Euro market with these newer models.

Special thanks to Charles Mechura and Alex (who use to work for Miramar Audi). I highly recommend both these guys if your interested in the Volvo's. Hit them up at San Diego Wes Hinkle's Volvo. And if you ask around, lots of great reviews for San Diego Volvo.

If there is one thing you can say about Volvo motors is TORQUE. Its not uncommon to see over 400ft/lbs out of them on stock bottom ends :D
