id start off by checking out www.ipdusa.com ... they got springs/shocks/swaybars/radiator upgrades

swedespeed.com and turbobricks.org and volvospeed.com will be a good place to start some research

but honestly since you got a DL, not much motor mods that id consider, but id get suspension upgrades, you should see what a set of springs/bilstein shocks/swaybars can make a volvo handle ;) ;)

I think should wait for doug242's opinion, but i dont think any of the non-turbo volvo motors are much fun ;)

Besides the aforementioned suspension mods ...

- change out the M-cam, which falls flat over 3500 rpm, for a B-cam which is pretty good from 1500 to 5k.
- iPd sport exhaust, or on the cheap, replace the rear muffler with a "straight through" muffler.
- electric fan mod (http://www.turbobricks.com/mods.php?content=art0008)
- Ronal rims (http://www.ronalusa.com/cars/volvo_240.html), which is one of only a few that offer the wheels in the right RWD offset. Otherwise, run wheel adapters (http://www.gilracing.com/VolvoSpacers/index.html) and get FWD rims.

That's about it without going too drastic. FWIW, the GL just has more luxury features (leather, power accessories, alloys, etc.), but not more power.

Its a good car, but i would stick with suspension mod's ... ipd does offer a lot of good parts for maintaining volvo's

Wow! The wing is pretty cool and for some reason I've always liked the rear "louvers". wierd

If you didn't live in CA I'd say turbo it in a heartbeat.. but we have smog and smog sucks. (smog laws suck let me make that clear... no make that the visual... just the visual).

Lon is right, suspension first. Since you have smog, might as well make it as fun to drive as possible.

Whats your budget?

You know you can always add the turbo motor from a Volvo to it but you just have to add all the smog equipment from the year the motor was originally made and installed on the donor car. Then you have to go through the long process of going ot the REF and having them certify it and then for every smog you need after that you can goto the REF and get them done for thes rest of the cars life.

Oh hell your right just make the current setup more fun to drive and save up and look for a turbo Volvo to enahnce your collection with!!

Exactly. Thats why Im curious how "handy" this person is and how patient. I've seen ONE 240 that's been turbo'd and gone through the legalization process. It can be done... just a pita.

When I turbo'd my 94 Saturn Sc2 I had a hell of a time getting it to pass at the ref's since no Saturn had ever had a Turbo on it from the factory. It took me 4 months and 6 visits to the Ref but I eventually got it to pass all the smog crap and it was fine after that. Definatley is not for the faint of heart to go down that road!!
