View Full Version : Wheels for my 92X

So I'm looking for wheels for my 92X and I thought that I might have found a good choice...less that Axis sticker...
http://www.axiswheels.com/images/wheels/reverb/REVERB_granite_b.jpg
They are "hollow cast" for strength and less weight. Sounds good.
However, I was reading on one of the WRX boards that the ideal offset for a 7.5" width wheel on a WRX, which is essentially what my car is, is 47mm to 50mm. The offset on the Reverb is 42mm, which means that the wheels sticks out a little futher.
That leaves me with 2 questions:
1. Will the extra 5mm cause premature bearing failure, as discussed on boards like nasioc.com?
2. With the extra 5mm be more of a potential problem for me as my 92X does not have the flared fenders like the WRX?
Your thoughts?

ok to answer your questions.
1. As for bearing failure yeah that is a factor to contend with. The offset is there for a reason but it does not mean that if you run these wheels that you will kill your bearings in 5 months. It would more than likley be more like 5 years if anything at all so I do't think that I would worry too much about it. But as an alternative you may want to contact companies like TSW to see if they have a similiar wheel to the Axis rim and they will custom drill it to your offset and specs.
goto http://saablink.net and PM a guy named Dasaabguy for good hookups on rims. (tell him I refered you over to him)
2. As for the flared feder issue I have seen 9-2x's with 18's on them with no issues at all. Now if you want to be sure then you can get a set of coil overs and have the fenders rolled to accomidate the rims but I dont see you having an issues without the WRX fender lip.

Ok I did a lot of research before I got my wheels for my wagon. First thing we cannot fit all the wheels on our cars that the WRx sedans can because of their flared fenders. The widest we can go is a 7.5 then you have to watch the offset and tires size you will go with. The widest size in an 18 that will fit on the wagon is a 225 and then you take the chance of rubbing in the rear unless you get your rear fenders rolled. I went with a 18 x 7 with a 48mm offset put a 215/40-18 tire on it. So far no rubbing but I still haven't lowered the car yet.

How is the ride on 18's? What tires did you get?
I am looking at BFG G-Force Sports...but they are 17's.
The Axis wheel sticking out just a little too much and the narrower fenders on the 92X have me worried.
...but I can get a smoking deal on those Reverbs...crap...

The ride is a little stiffer then with my stock 16's but nothing major and it handles a lot better. I went with the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S.

If you trade up to 18's your ride will always suffer a little bit but not too much. When you goto lower your car make sure you go with a decent set of coil overs and some good shocks like Koni adjustables or your ride may suffer alot more than you would like.
One problem is no one is making an aftermarket strut for the 04-05 car's yet. From what I have been reading the stock struts are good for up to a 1" drop. The 05's will handle better due to struts being revalve different then the 04 and older. Eibach and Prodrive are good springs to go with. Since they both make wagon specific spring. I am getting a set of the Eibach's myself and should have them on the car in about a week or so. I will let you know how it handles.

Nah. I like the Reverbs, but there's too much talk about the offset being a problem on other boards. Found some good sources. I'll find some...

http://www.subydude.com/ ?
First question, how much are you looking to spend?
Tirerack has the OZ Chrono Evolutions like I got in 17's for $169 a wheel.

That's a good deal and a nice light wheel. I'm not sure that price is a restriction. I am more concerned with weight, strength, and the look. I don't want anything too crazy. The Reverbs interested me because I can get them really cheap, but the offset issue bugs me.
The Rotas on subydude.com are nice too.
Hey EDM how do you like your Pirelli's? I heard that those tend to track on the rain grooves on our freeways.
Oh the drama...

What ever you do don't get Rota Subzero's. There have been a lot of people breaking them. I would go with the Tarmac in black. That would look good.

I like the Pirelli's a lot. Yes they do track sometimes but the grooves have to be pretty wide for them to do so.

if you get rotas, i'd suggest www.oakos.com if you want to avoid ca sales tax. :)
edit: tarmac 2s would be the ones you want, not the first tarmacs. they look different. and they would look good on the saab
