Well since I'm waiting on money to mod/repair my car I might as well ask if any of you might be able to tell me what might be the cause of my "problems." Maybe you can help me with solutions to remedy the problems.

1) While in gear the stick has play to the left and the right. The clutch feels normal but I notice a lot of "kick" from the tranny. The only way to get it smoothly between gears is in high RPM.

2) Under the drivers side front I've had a constant "rattle" sound when I hit irregularities in the road (i.e. Divits, cracks, bumps). When looking under I didn't really notice anything. I've had the strut mount bushings checked and replaced, but the noise hasn't gone away.

3) For the first few minutes after starting (cold) there is a squeaking noise that I assume is a belt. The noise goes away after the motor warms up.

4) There is a "ticking" noise comming from somewhere in the engine compartment. When inside the car you can hear a ticking from the passenger side firewall. When listening under the hood it sounds like it is comming from the block. Those who have heard it have offered up several possibilites (valves, lifters, injectors, exhaust, coil-packs). The noise sounds like it is comming from the rear of the block near the coil-packs, but I haven't replaced them to check. If any of you have had this noise and had it remedied let me know.

5) It feels like I might be getting "surging." When I accelerate sometimes I notice that it feels like it will accelerate then back off and accelerate again.

I really just want to have my car running right and be able to mod it as soon as possible. I've got a lot of crap going on with my work injury and school and other ish that having this just bums me out. Any help is appriciated.

Sadly, I'm not much help.
1) sounds like synchros
2) does it sound like a spring reverberating? this sound woudn't come from your upper strut mount
3) belt, check for cracks or any excessive wear
4) no clue
5) no clue

What kind of car do you have?
