A ‘Superchipped’ Golf GTI race car – the world’s first racing development of the award-winning new Golf GTI – has been unveiled by Paul Willis, Director of Volkswagen Cars UK, at the company’s headquarters in Blakelands, Milton Keynes.

In its capacity as Volkswagen Racing UK Official Tuning Partner, Superchips has boosted the power output of the car’s turbocharged 2.0-litre direct injection petrol engine from the standard 200 PS (197 bhp) to 239 PS (236 bhp), an increase of

20 per cent. This stunning increase has been achieved through expert re-mapping of the engine control unit (ECU).

Along with ‘Superchipping’, several other modifications have been made to the standard Golf GTI to ensure its competitiveness and safety as a race car. They include a bespoke race exhaust system, larger front brakes, enhanced suspension with two-way adjustable race dampers, Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres and a fully stripped bodyshell with FIA-standard roll cage.

"We are delighted to be working with Volkswagen Racing UK again this season," said Superchips Managing Director, Ian Sandford. "Motorsport presents a fascinating challenge, as it requires highly precise tailoring of the engine mapping software. It’s a natural extension of our ongoing research and development activities, through which we constantly introduce new applications for road-going cars."

The Golf GTI is a case in point. Unconstrained by race regulations, Superchips can increase the power output of the standard Golf GTI road car by 42 PS (41 bhp) and torque by 54 Nm, for just £511.13 including VAT.

As the world leader in engine management system tuning, Superchips can make dramatic performance improvements to over 700 cars, including the vast majority of makes and models. All types of engine are catered for, whether normally aspirated, turbo petrol or turbo diesel.

Conversions are carried out at Superchips’ 85 dealers nationwide and at the company’s headquarters in Buckingham. In some parts of the country, they can also be done at a customer’s home or place of work, courtesy of one of the network’s mobile units. If required, Superchips can also arrange favourable insurance via specialist brokers.

Thinking of getting a MK5 ... if only they sold the diesel version in SoCal ... it would make my 100-mile commute a whole lot cheaper.

BTW .... wet dinaguan > pork sinigang.
