Exhaust install?

I might get an OE Vr6 exhaust from a fellow Dubber, to replace my OE 2.0 exhaust ... but the mid muffler has been removed, so he says a "short length of tube" would need to be welded on ... any idea where I could get this done (general places or specific recommendations), and about how much $ I might be looking at?

edit: also, any clue if this would pass/fail inspection? I know that exhaust mods don't register for emissions, but not sure about visual + audio state testing .. I got exempt for this year so never had a car inspected :D

Doing some more research, I'm finding some people apparently have the TDI midpipe welded in place of the resonator (mid muffler) ... anyone know about this?

Apparently the mk4 TDI midpipe is 2.25 inches, which matches the mk4 1.8T and VR6 exhaust of 2.25 inches, but not the mk4 2.0L of 2.0 inches ...
Searching through FIVE PAGES of Vortex search results, though, everything was about mk4s ... wondering if the mk3 VR6 exhaust is 2.25in., and if it would work with the mk4 TDI downpipe?

I'd prefer to use an OE piece rather than just have Midas whip up some hack job, assuming it would work / is prefferable.
