i was driving tonight and something "popped" and my car went into what i thought was limp mode, but i disconnected/reconnected the battery and it is still jacked up.
it acts like it is running on 3 cylinders and has a flashing engine light. i have a vagcom but no comp to run it... fuck

could be coilpack, but could be worse... say mechanical engine issues. If you heard a pop it could just be a hose from the turbo to engine (one of them, turbo/intercooler, intercooler/engine), just check them in the morning.

If it was a loud pop, it could have been one of your intercooler hoses blowing off. The car will get really crazy sluggish and the CEL will flash. I had a hose blow off on a freeway ramp and I thought I had a blowout.
You can get T-bolt clamps at a place called Marshall Hardware in Miramar if you need them... They won't pop off.

it was the kind of pop you dont notice until you reach for the power and it's not there. it still builds boost, but the engine shakes like mad.
i checked the hoses, they're all intact. i checked hoses around the dv, all good.
i started it and unplugged the MAF, it ran noticeably worse, so that's not it.
i just took off the two coil packs that are accessible (one at a time) and started the car.. it ran even worse.. so if it's a coil pack, it's one that's underneath the ign coil, and not as easily accessible.

nick told me today that coil packs sometimes fail on the output side, and when they do it's all at once like what happened last night. i'll vag it tonight and then have it taken in tomorrow.

Steve, did James get back with you?
Swap the coilpacks from 3 to 4, clear the codes and try it again, should cause the misfire to go to Cyl4 if it is the cp.

3 is under the ignition module, and not at all accessible without taking that whole thing off...
