View Full Version : Nikon D70 vs D2H
The D2H came in yesterday and well it's pretty overwhelming to me. Had to relearn all the functions that were built into the menu of the D70 and are physical controls on the D2H. The camera feels so solid. The D70 is a very well built body, and in no way feels like plastic. At least not like the Rebel from Canon. Construction on the D2H is very solid with a well designed latch on the memory slot. The body is weighty, obviously more so than the D70 but overall the balance has been really good (50/1.8, 18-70, 35-70/2.8). I will shoot some this weekend and get comparison shots back to back between the D70 and the D2h.

And I thought I splurged when I spent $40 on an ND 4x filter and circular polarizer last night.
Nah, just stopped modding the car :D

The camera is quite sharp (Canon G2) it's the resize algorithym used.

Olympus TCON-300 for E-10/20.
It's hard to believe the damned thing is a 62mm SCREW-ON, ain't it?
$300... hmm, well that's slightly cheaper than last year.... I could probably swing it by December.
:)
Nice gear, Paul.

That has got to be one of the oddest looking lenses I have ever seen.
And Paul, if you need some decent pics of all your Nikon gear, I'd be happy to bring my Canon 20D over. Did I mention that my 70-200 is white? :P
If you need some decent motorsport shots let me know, I can crank out 10fps out of my D2h, what does your 20D put out again?

My venerable 4-year old fixed-lens SLR Olympus E-10 does 3.7fps, max 4. Then it's a 10 second wait before I can do another four-shot burst.
But hey, if you've got the skills, you can stitch this:

(Yes, a D2h is in the shot)
D2h is 8fps marketed, higher for most people, and 40 before buffer has to empty.

Nice Paul.
If you ever decide to donate the D70 to someone I would be glad to take it off your hands. :D
BTW killer shot(s) :D

Indeed. I need to try this out, waiting for the ND and CP filters. One of the "quirks" of the E-10? The fastest shutter speed is 1/640. In bright sunlight even at F11, you really need to do a lot to keep it from blowing out. Getting it down to F5.6 (the camera's sweet spot) or even F8 will be a good thing.

Turbo Racer Audi?
Totally Uber-Rad Ballistic Offensive Radical Audi?
I want an E-1, myself. Nothing like a full-metal weather-sealed body, hence my complete lack of interest in the D-70 and the Rebel 300.. though the D2H is tasty along with the 20D. This is probably why I end up buying cameras when they're four years old... I want the goods, but I can't justify the cash at my level of expertise.

Think of it as an investment in your future. Get a nice setup now and learn with it instead of having to learn the quirks of a new system later.

That's why I'm sticking with the Olympus E-series systems to a certain degree (that and I like their 4/3 roadmap). The other is that this ol' E-10's probably going to be with me awhile, best to keep learning how to use it.
