I was a watching 11 fox news today and they had a story about "Vondutch" the man and his life. He's real name was Kenny Howard
For those that dont know much about him ... click here (http://www.letterhead.com/articles/bob_burns/vondutch/)
http://www.ocweekly.com/images/ink/04/18/sm18lede1.jpg
He was a brillant pin-striper and hotrod customizer in the late 50's.
Most of you guys only know him as a "fashion" line that was named after him.
In the news report:
Little do most of people that ware his clothing know that he concider himself to be
one of america's "real" Nazi's.
and that he was extreamly rasies against blacks, mexicans and jews.

Von Who?
What the kids don’t know about the racist alcoholic genius behind Von Dutch.
by Theo Douglas

Even those who admire Von Dutch don’t call him a nice guy. No, they use words like bitter and racist and violent. They describe someone who was jaded young and spent much of his life hiding from the world. His name was a reflection of that, the very symbol of his obstinacy, anger and distrust of the world.
So is it ironic or just cruel that his name wound up co-opted by what Mencken called the booboisie, stitched onto hats and baby doll T-shirts worn by an army of pretty girls like Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Ashton Kutcher? Is Von Dutch doomed, as one admirer put it, "to be forever remembered for his name in 4-inch letters on someone’s ass"?
He was Von Dutch, uh-huh, that guy, that name. He was one of hot rodding’s wise men, up there on a stinky, toxic lacquer cloud with painter George Barris, the late customizer Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and artist and hot rodder Robert Williams.
Starting in the 1950s, Von Dutch reinvented automotive pinstriping, turning each paint job into a painting, doing way-out takes on woodland creatures and scenes of the day—then making up stories to explain them. He was a superb craftsman who made his own knives, guns and motorized roller skates.

I thought GREAT! When I saw some Von Dutch items.... not realizing it was about to explode into a fashion nightmare.
Von Dutch art was very recognizable and inspiring, no doubt.
I have always liked his flying eye logo.
I've schooled several little ignorant fashion clowns about who and what Von Dutch is. It never makes sense to them... "i think it's a cool logo!" Or "Paris Wears it"
ARRGH...
Oh well, I can only hope that I can be idolized in fashion someday.

i'd hit it with a towel wrapped bat, the swelling would make her look allot better.
I have a von dutch shirt and i'm aware he is a racist, thats his problem doesn't effect the fact that he was a good artist and his work is interesting. now that the lid has been blown off I'll use it to wax my car just like the westcoast choppers shirt I had before they blew up, once everyone started to wear them, in the rag bucket it goes

i hope that never happens, everything is getting so over commercialized, my first car show was by Big Daddy ROTH , i saw his "Kustom Kulture" exhibit at the Laguna Art museum In 1993 (one year after his death, i beleive), i would really hate to see someone try to commercialize on this great man.
i saw OCC minature bikes at cosco yesterday and was like "oh jesus"

Next time you see a loser wearing some Von dutch clothing, give them a Seig Heil salute and start talking about the great progress of the White Race ... since they're probably a rich white kid who tries to act black, they'll be appalled and go spend $300 on some other trendy line of clothing immediately.

thats just fashion for you. how many of you wear skate shoes and have never picked up a skateboard? how many of you have worn quiksilver/rusty/volcom and have never surfed before? thats what happens when clothing brands sell out to nordstrom or other major dept. stores. california culture always has some sort of fashion to it and they've all gained popularity at different times.

Never heard of any of them, but I will admit to an OP sweatshirt my parents had to drag off of me kicking and screaming back in the ...well..a while ago.

I was one of the lucky few who actually got to see Ed Roth at work. My friends dad who was also a pinstriper was really good friends with him. One day Ed Roth was over at my friends house and I was lucky enough to watch him do his magic.

I really cant stand the trend at all... When I moved down here I was bitching about see the logo everywhere. He thought I was bitter until I explained to him why. That changed his tune. I was watching " I love the 80s" and theres a black comedian wearing the hat....I was just thinking this guy has no idea.. :hammerh:

Racist or not, he is not associated with the clothing line.
They bought his name basically.
Expecting to set a trend, and successfully doing so.
Good for them
I wish someone would start a Jack Kirby Trend again...

I highly agree with your comments. I absolutely detest people who don't have the balls to form there own sense of style and identity . Sell outs!!! Leave it to the small minded shallow folks to jump on the bandwagon at the snap of there little friends fingers and change style as often as I changed my kids diapers. that just goes to show how disposible some peoples self worth is. kids....... a piece of advise to you all. Make sure that you develop a backbone as you grow up. Dont relly on others to shape you as you mature. you will hate yourself for it.
My opinion is that although Von Dutch may have been a great pinstripper or what ever. People should ban wearing the line of clothes. Fuck him!!!!! I hate racists!!!! What makes it any better than wearing an Arian nation or NAZI logo?

wearing a Von Dutch is not considered support of the artist.
Maybe 10 years ago it was, but now it's just fashion.
It's not like it's Tommy Hilfiger Brand.

regardless of it being fashion or supporting the artist it is still putting his name out there and carrying it around for others to see. Either way it is still lame!!!!

Bah! Don't watch Denzel Washington movies then... he's anti-white... but he keeps on working, appealing to the masses.
Don't listen or watch Howard Stern... he opens the airwaves for Daniel Carver... and is antifat girls. (heh)
Don't watch Vin Diesel movies, he's a moron.
Don't eat red meat... Killing cows is bad but tastes so good
Don't go vegan, plants have feelings too!
lock yourself in a closet and shelter your life. it's the only way. The only way.
I'm just kidding... or am I?
