The owner of the car is on another site I frequent.....

5 years in the making, my project is now gone.

Started out being the first 1.8t in the rochester, ny region (purchased in 3/00). Started out a mellow life that quickly blossomed into quite a time consuming effort. Last night the car decided it had to one up me, do something to top all the other issues I'd created in it. At roughly 8pm last night (5/10) white smoke started to come from the dash/floor vents which my passenger claimed were hot -- not the typical oil burning smoke I'd first thought it to be. Minutes later with lots of help of my friends I was in a losing battle to put out a fire. Diddnt take long to use up two small fire extinguishers with small flair ups continuing to popup. Eventually the fire department had to come....

I'm thank full my passenger and myself were not injured in anyway. Thank full that insurance should take care of the rest.

damn man that really blows. they should have closed the doors and everything so it didnt have oxygen to burn, and then hopefully there would be no back draft. that really sucks man.

I've seen the same happen to a civic right in front of me. Surprisingly, no one has asked the most important question of all: what caused the fire? That would seem like the last thing I'd want to happen to my car.

By the way, that was extremely hard to watch.

<cries> I want his wheels. <cries> *wipes face* That s a horrible scene to witness, and that fact that it was his own ride! That was like "Faces of Death" for cars. It looked like his down pipe may have started the fire resting against that aluminum heat shield with "fiber-glass in it. im gonna check mine now!!!
