1997 Audi Cabriolet
So I leave work, start the Audi and there is a faint strange noise. Sort of like a belt being slightly loud or an slight exhaust leak. Nothing too out of the ordinary.
I drive about 1 miles, then all of a sudden the car shuts off in traffic. And will not start. I have power, as the radio, flashers and power windows all work. Lucky for me, a group of guys helped me push it out of the road to a service station.
I pop the hood and smell that burnt electrical smell. Also there is a small vacuum hose on the top of the engine that is disconnected. Other than that I can see nothing wrong.
The A/C fans blow, and I tried all the other electrical stuff and it seems to work.
I have the car towed to the house. I hook up the VAG and can find no fault codes.
What I do notice is when I turn the key all the way to the right, it stays all the way to the right. It does nto come back like a usual ignition.
What I think happen is the ignition is broken and with it all the way to the right it is was sending current continuously to the starter and fried the starter and who knows what else.
Any guesses or advice on what I should look for?
Or is there anything else I can do with the VAG to look for what is wrong.
Thanks for the help.
Bryan
