It's a fucking corolla. If this is real, I'm seriously sad. The world is going to end. VW has been doing the absolute worse job with their directional strategy....

#1 - The Phaeton: VW is NOT a luxury make. Rebadging an A8 only make the A8 less desirable.

#2 - The Tourage: Same as above. That car (Tourage) should have been an Audi.

#3 - The MKV: It's a Toyota

I've been into dubs since my 66 Type 1 (still in the family). VW has always made cars that are innovative, stylish, and more than what I'd expect from Asian or American marques. But now it seems they're just doing dumb shit and diluting their image and the image of their extended brands. Instead of focusing on developing the value of their core market they're going god knows where and taking Audi with them. I understand that VW is the Parent Company. I understand they're trying to change their positioning, but why? what's the point? They used to not import A3's and other lower cost Audi's so there wouldn't be any competition between the 2 brands. Now it seems they're doing the exact opposite. Why would I buy an R32 when I can get an A3?

Disclaimer: Yes I own an A4. Me saying that the Tourage should have been an Audi is not knocking VW just making a marketing assesment based on the role each branch of VAG. Audi is owned by VAG so it's not a thing of snobbery.

I think all new cars are just starting to all look the same, but when one of us gets one and the mods start to go on, and we've seen it in person, It will have a snowball effect and before you know it, the MK4's wiil be rare at a GTG like my MK3 is now.

the motor for the MK5 showed up in our AUDI reps A3 he brought from the emissions lab. 200hp 2 liter turbo. hmmm if its anything like the 1.8T of today, its gonna knock the tuning and aftermaret on its ear again. I'm excited to see what develops in early-mid 2005.

Just to try and defend myself, I'm not necessarily jumping on the Mk5-hating bandwagon (that's for you mk4 people ;)) ... when I first saw the Golf V, I thought it was terrible ... but after seeing some tastfully modded GTIs, it really can look pretty dang nice ... perhaps once some tuned mk5 jettas come out some of us will have a different view. The engines will be straight goodness, for sure.

That said, I still think stock mk4 jettas look horrid, and no doubt my opinion on this won't change for the mk5s at all - I don't really like the Golf body style, either.

All of which makes me like my mk3 more ... ok, resume the hating :cool:

I think that it will grow on us all much as the other models did. Although the MK3 will never grow on me, I love the MK4 cars. As a MKII owner for the last 15 years, I have seen many great things from VW and many things that make me want to drop a bomb on Germany. I think all in all we will find some tasteful mods to do to this one as well and make it our own. I'm planning on getting one when they come out hopefully...as soon as I pay off some other bills.
