so i'm going in today to speak with the people at the VW dealership about a new jetta, no retard-i-hate-the-new-jetta comments needed please, but i need some advice on how to get the price down as much as possible.. he told me i could get a good deal this week cause they've been really slow so the manager needs to sell something this week ... i've never bought a brand new car before so i need some advice from you guys/girls that buy new cars like it's a fashion trend :D

tia!!!

p.s. i decided on the black instead of grey.. they used a lighter shade of gray than for the gli last year :(

best way to get a good deal.. SHOP AROUND. Make the dealerships fight for your business.

Pictures do that Jetta no justice....That thing looked fucking good, and everyone next to me said they hated the car from when they first came out but this car changed all our minds ;)

Edmunds and their "True Market Value" pricing is pretty accurate of what you can expect to pay. The best thing to do is go in there knowing what you're willing to pay and don't budge. If you have to leave that day, do so—they'll call you. If you don't feel comfortable with one dealership, go to another (hint: stay away from Miramar). I had a real good experience over at City VW...

Also, don't get any dealer add-ons (i.e. clearcoat, alarm, scotchguard, etc)... they're pretty much useless.

everyone's basically covered it.

go in to a dealer, know what you are willing to pay....just don't let them know.

last time we went car shopping (for a new car) we knew HOW much we wanted to pay for the CRV....and the whole process took about three hours including the dealer prep for the car...

AAA and Costco have a deal where it is $500 over invoice for their top of the line model (not special editions).

Look into, not a bad deal.

can i trade in?
Sure, trade in is the same as anything else

Costco or AAA just gives you the power to get fixed pricing. You'll have to ask Costco about the deal, or check their website.

Any dealership that is part of the costco program agrees to give Costco members a particular deal

dont let them talk you into a paint protection...or scotch guarding your interior----waste!
id look into the costco thing, from what ive heard about it is, that its a basically dealing with the fleet manager........and you might wanna bypass the sales guy and tell the fleet manager what you want, if they cant get it, youll go somewhere else

ooh ooh !! thats another point

talk to the Internet Fleet Manager .. they dont care how much they sell it for, they get paid per car, not per $$ ... so they dont care about how much they sell it to you for, as long as they sell it

thats what i learned from one of the internet managers i know

Really? When i got my 20th i was looking at the AAA priced car and it was a fully loaded 1.8t with leather, cold package and all the goodies.

On the test drive from their underground lot is where i saw the 20 just sitting in a dark corner.

so i went and talked to palmdale vw today and the first guy was pretty cool.. i loved the test drive.. it certainly wasn't like my lil' turbo but i still appreciated the nice ride.... defintely something to check into.. but here's the problem... my trade in value .. so i owe 12k and the appraisal for trade in is 6k-8k.. which is fine, but the bank said they will only finance up to the msrp.. so they tried to say that i would have to go in like 6k under to trade my car in.. but here's the catch...
invoice says to sell the new jetta for 21,700
their trade in value of my car 6,400
final price.......... wait for it.......... 29k!!!! wtf!!! he's like, okay we're giving the car to you for only 20k but you have 6k under for your car, and then taxes so it comes to 29k.... wtf? i'm registering my car with florida so that trakes care of a lot of expense for registration.. so where the hell does he get 29k??? i read up on edmunds.com and grilled him with all the questions they say to ask and he got pretty pissed off at me and finally i walked out.... haha!!! thanks everyone for the help and advice.. now i'm gonna call a few other dealers tomorrow but i may just end up keeping my baby!! ;)

If you're 4k-6k upside down on your loan, I'd look at trying to close that gap rather than buying a new car. Don't forget that trade-in value can be significantly less than private party sale value. Check edmunds.com for more info.

20K x 7.75% = $1500.

If you're that far under, I'd almost suggest either keeping your 1.8T or selling your car to a private party and then picking up the Jetta. You'll be paying waaay too much a month to be rolling around in a Jetta if you just trade in.

haha! i sooo thought about that, when i happened to just mention that to my wife she went nuts.. haha!!!

i'm gonna make a few calls today but it's looking like i'll be keeping my wolfie.. which really doesn't make me sad or anything... i just wanted to save money on gas in a new car than burn it all on my car now but it's cool.. i still love my car!!! ;)

and who knows, i think californians hate me cause i've almost been hit on the freeway like a hundred times already, maybe one day they won't miss ;)
