The front grill and the location of the rear license plate are the only redeeming aspects I see in this facelift.
The worst are the fender lines and narrow/angular corner lights.
No, really, why do we need to add body and fender lines to every damned redesign coming out, even if the car really shouldn't have any because of its inherent design?

And yes, I still miss the donut headrests.

what changed exactly
and by 'body lines' do you mean those seams just past each wheel well?
I recall my sister saying once that the whole front/back end were essentially one piece, so a minor wreck = massive cost to repair ... so wouldn't splitting the compontents up a bit - even it a bit more unsightly - make a ton of sense?

It doesn't look that much different to me personally. A little edgier but still about the same

I'm still undecided on the Jetta V. But I like the Golf V and next-gen GTI.
Having said that, the current design is classically handsome. And will still look good in 10 or 20 years, IMO. (as will the current Jetta models, sedan and wagon)

Wow it is still ugly.

The car's not supposed to be "edgy". It's body lines are simple curves, no sharp angles. That's why the NB Votex bumpers work so well, they accentuate the design. This compromises it.
Compare the differences:
