had the radio (stock) on while i was washing the car, finished drying the car, jumped in to start the car and the car went click, click, click, click, click...damnit dead battery!!! turned off the radio and all the interior lights, went click, click, click, and then clock reseted to 12:00 and the trip went to zero...dead battery, ugh...went to costco, 47$ for a new battery, the optima's cost about 100$ but not sure which one i should get, the yellow or red top ones? anyways, i had to replace the stock battery, about 3 years old now. oh well. i have a kirkland series battery...should last me about 4-5 years? lol...just wanted to share. anybody know if i can still recharge this battery or get it reconditioned?

get a trickle charger and find out, starting about $30 with a simple green/red light on it.

Red Top is the way to go.

Optima 34R Red Top, reverse post. I just put one in the NB a couple of weeks ago.

I spent the little extra, now I don't have to worry about the damned thing for the next ten years.

The stock battery lasted 4.5 years.

Trickle charger only helps if it's close to full. It won't recharge a fully drained battery.

Get one of the Vector (or manufactured by them) 'smart' battery chargers. Something about high frequency charging and processor controlled (so says them), but the fact that it revived five old batteries in the past year that the Sears charger couldn't revive, it was well worth the $40. The five included a Duralast manufactured 2000 (sat for 8 months without being used), a Toyota OEM from 2000 (freebie), a Pep Boys from 2000 (from a parts car), a Volvo OEM from 1998 (low reserve time), and an AC Delco from 1996 (old, and definitely thought for dead!). All of them load tested good afterwards.

Another option is to just take it into Autozone for them to check/recharge for free. They will load test it afterwards too, to verify whether it's reasonably close to spec or not. Their Duralast lineup has been fine for me.

I paid $130 including tax. I was in a rush and they were the closest shop. Convenience trumped frugalness this time around.

Remember, it needs to be Optima Red Reverse Post (34R), formerly the Optima Orange.
