My Audi's been running like SH*T lately...bucking, surging, smoking, and just being generally unpleasent.

First I thought the FPR went bad, since it was running very rich. Nope, not it.

Then I thought the MAF was bad, even though it was reading some g/s. Nope, not it.

Then I took every single freaking hose off the intake manifold, and there's a lot of 'em.

Found this....

I ended up replacing a whole bunch of other hoses and the PCV valve. All these hoses are custom molded with different sized ends so you can only get them from the dealer. Cost me $110!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rip off.

Oh well, at least the car is running strong again.

Welcome to the world of audi vacuum lines. All of them are molded and all of them crack, break, tear, etc.

Nice work finding it though. It can be a pain to track those down.

That's an understatement. They always seem to split on the bottom, or at the inside of an elbow where you can't see them.

Tom what is the part number of this 90 degree hose? I'm thinking I'll be proactive and replace it now before it fails on me. What size clamps you use too?

I called three dealerships, none of them had it. They said the part number had been supersceded by an A6 part number, and that the notes said only to use it on an A6. All three of them said my best bet was to find it locally. I got a brass elbow fitting from Home Depot and matched it up to some hose from Autozone.

I used the standard worm-style adjustable hose clamps. I need to go to mscdirect.com and order some more Oetiker clamps so I can do it right. The only size Oetiker clamps I have now are for the small vacuum lines.

I should also add that the new MAF did make a difference in the way the car ran. It didn't solve the major problem though. My cars got over 100k on it and it was the original MAF. My guess is that over time, they loose a little accuracy or something. If you have a high mileage car with the original MAF (if you're lucky), you might want to consider replacing it to regain some lost performance. I picked a remanufactured MAF from ecstuning.com. It was around $80.
