yes, it's fine, and you could even put 87 in as long as you dont drive like you're at the track.. take it easy and dont mash the pedal.. the ecu is sophisticated enough to retard the timing to prevent your engine from damaging itself even if you mash it, but i wouldnt take that chance.. you'd be pinging like crazy.

Agreed! Seriously-What is the difference between 91 an 89 octane? $.10 a gallon?? x 14 gallons??? All your gonna save is a whopping $1.40

Engine management will adjust the timing to 89 or 87 octane for knocking. but cheap gas causes carbon build up, and slightly lower performance (you wont notice, but your motor will) pay the extra and use Chevron 91. Arco and Shell are camel piss.

89 octane is a marketing tool used to artificially inflate the price of premium.
Go with 87 or 91, skip the middleman.

yeah sometimes i have to get gas on base cause it's so far from any other gas station that i just go in and buy some octane boost cause they only have 87 ;)

What base?

And octane boost is a complete waste of money... If it says that it will raise it 10 points... that means from 87.0 to 88.0

There was a write up in European car or Eurotuner a few months back that they tested the octane boosters. Don't remember the outcome exactly, but they DID do something. I will look for the article

Hey Eric, where is the 76 that sells 100 at the pump? Isn't it off Oso Pkwy?

octane boosters are a scam... a 16oz bottle is nowhere near enough to raise your octane sufficiently.. the octane rating of the fuel in your tank is easy, it's an average. for the sake of argument, i'll do the math.

ok 16oz is .0125 gallon, and what is octane booster? toulene? 114 octane? so you take

114(octane booster) x .0125(quantity) + 10(quantity) x 87(existing octane) = 871.425 / 10.0125 (# of total gallons) = 87.3 average tank octane

for every 10 gallons, you're getting a .3 raise in octane... not 3.0 or more, which is what the man would like you to believe.

for me to get 100 oct, i buy 5 gallons of 110 and add it to 5 gallons of 91

91 x 5 = 455
110 x 5 = 550

455 + 550 = 1005/10 = 100.5
