" As of January 1, 2004 the cost of a seat belt ticket more than tripled, and now runs from $78 to $89 on a first offense, depending upon the county. Legislation (AB 1625), authored by Assemblyman John Benoit, allows penalty assessments and court costs to be added on top of a base fine. In essence, what previously cost $22.50 on a first offense will now run more than three times that amount. Drivers will also face penalties if passengers are not safely buckled."

Heh, around here, they have billboards that say "Half buckled = whole ticket"
with a picture of some dude with the seatbelt buckled, but then the shoulder strap place behind him(so he's sitting on it).

I keep thinking to myself, "WTF. If you are going to go through all the trouble to buckle your damn seatbelt, just wear it properly." heh.

coming from personal experience, this was my car after being t-boned from a guy that was driving 90mph .. basically my seat came unattached from the car, my fist went through the vents, and my door was smashed in about 2ft .... the only thing that saved my life.. yup, a seat belt... i'd suggest keeping your belt on, even if you're a good driver, there are plenty of dumba$$es on the road to make up for it :smokem:

okay, i definitely agree that seatbelts save lives, and that i should wear one. but! i don't agree with the fact that i HAVE to wear one. i don't think anyone should be making me wear my seatbelt for my own good. if i wanna endanger my own life, its my choice. yes, i smoke.

oh, and does anyone know how much its going to cost me for not having my license on me?

i could think of a million reasons...

the most extreme of which happened to an acquaintance: dude was thrown from the car, he ran him over with his car...my acquaintance is still scared-to-date from having run over that person and having killed him (he didn't die on impact)

not only does seat belt help your safely, it helps you stay in a position to navigate the vehicle in emergencies

its also for the safety of others, because if you loss control, you endanger others
