I know that for some, the word "Automatic" should not be in the same sentence with "driving", but a Tiptronic seems like it might be a nice blend between driving your car and pointing your car.

Would anyone care to offer their opinion of the Tiptronic and how it has worked out for them? Thanks.

Driven many of them, even on modded cars. feels great in jettas and gtis but only with the 1.8t. VERY NICE for canyon driving. nice control.

So how do they work exactly? downshifting for example, does it rev match somehow or does it just jerk into the lower gear? And how about if your just slowing down to a light. Do you have to remember to down shift or will it do it for you if your revs drop too low?

I really need to test drive one...

it can feel a little rough if your driving really hard, but for the most part it matches up pretty well. it will go to neutral if you leave it in tiptronic mode when slowing down, but in drive it will downshift

I've got a k04 equipped A4 Tiptronic. It's not the fastest car off the line, but that's the drawback of an automatic. A Tiptronic is still an automatic tranny, just with some fancy shifting software. Once I get rolling, it rocks.

Upshifts and downshifts are fun and without drama. The coupling between the engine and drivetrain is viscous (torque convertor) and that removes alot of the shock that you get when releasing the clutch on a manual tranny.

from a technical standpoint its not bad.. for an automatic...it can have its fun moments... but if you know how to drive stick then why not just get a manual? driving an automatic (tiptronic or not) just isnt the same.

If there is any chance you will ever get stuck in 15 North traffic, get a tip. Before I had a tiptronic Audi as an option to my 5 speed SHO, I always kept my zoo pass on me, for days like today.
Traffic=Tiptronic

To be honest, I'm just plain getting lazy. sometimes it's nice to not have to fuss with the clutch, but I don't want to say good bye to control all together.
