Exclusive GTG discussion... (ie Old Skool Only)

If someone wants to have an exclusive gtg and you dont want certain people or cars showing. Than you shouldnt make it public. Send pms and let the people and cars who you want to know and thats it.

i agree plus your not really old school by owning a mki or mkii, old school is all the air cooled vws, type 1,2,3,4 thats old school.

ifthey want to have a gtg of old cars, there is no reason we should crash it. likewise, if i decided to try to start a b6 audi gtg, there nothing wrong with that, or anything that people should be offended about. its just another gtg. the old skool gtg has been scheduled on a day as not to compete with the normal weekly gtg's. however, there isn't really a reason to be so unwelcoming either since the way the old skool gtg was worded was a little hostile. or what about those who have old cars, like myself (86 8v gti) but its not really running, so i would maybe show up in my audi etc.

either way, that thread got out of hand in what looked like personal issues between the person trying to organize it and some other members.

I kinda agree that if its on socaleuro, it should be open to all of socaleuro but what if you just want to get say... all the corrados together for some rolling shots or group shots?

Its sometimes nice to just be able to call out all of one type of vehicle for things like that.

Personally, I find the idea of an "anything" only GTG offensive.
If you don't want the group there, don't post it on the group site.
Want pictures of all TT's together, no problem, just say "Hey, if you are not driving a TT please park to the side so we can get a picture".
Or even "This is primarily an old school GTG, other makes and models will be shunned".
But to use words such as "allowed" or "invited" in a public thread on a public forum is just asking for trouble.

No, I make it sound like we are discussing how we should handle these types of posts in the future.

I'm just giving people a place to voice their opinions so the forum mods can determine how they want to handle things like this. Ultimately we moderate to keep the community happy so we have to get a feel for what everyone thinks.

It seems pretty clear that all this drama is being fueled by a personal beef between Marco and Clint. Now some people are jumping on the band-wagon not to participate, but to ruin the gathering, ie " I'll show them! I'm gonna bring my -------" . I personally have no problem with an "Old-School" WATERCOOLED gathering. I cant tell you how many times I've gone to GTG's and was pratically ignored by all the folks with the newer cars, which is usually 90% of the cars that show. Not that they have an attitude against the older cars mind you (though some do). I think the better way to approach any "exclusive" gathering is to encourage people with the older cars to come by letting them know that it is geared toward them and at the same time open it to any VW owner- who knows?- Alot of the guys with newer VW's might have an old Rabbit, or Golf in the garage, and could come away from the gathering with some great ideas on how they could fix up that oldie!

So lets cool it. There's no need to start more beefs over this. Personally I like Marco, and was glad when he said he was coming. I've met Clint once, and he seems like a stand-up guy too. If you two have a beef, no one is forcing you to acknowledge one another. There's gonna be plenty other people there to hang with who want to enjoy the GTG, and could care less about the drama. This GTG was started with the intent on filling a void that till now most people payed no mind to. So let those who want to enjoy it, enjoy it.

I have nothing against any one including Clint, he is a cool guy but he just doesnt know how to approach people.

Its plain and simple: you dont want other cars to show up than start your own website and post your private gtgs there. By the way you know how to design cool sites so i dont know what you are waiting for?

And theres tons of people like me who own mk4s and mk2s at the same time, and if my mk2 is broken and need to bring my mk4 im not welcome? Btw last time i heard the URQ was broken but he was welcome there with a Hunday, so whats the big deal? Im sure he was there to have a good time!

Just like i said in my first post i like fudrukers is a good place to eat awesome burgers. And like to spend time with good friends and cool people.
