View Full Version : n00b tuning questions for my new 1.8T B5

As an 8-second 0-60 just won't do it for me, I'm going to chip my 99.5 1.8tqms almost immediately (as soon as I sell my B4). Also, I will (within the next year) upgrade my turbo, likely to a Garrett GT28RS as I hear they're better than the K04 (correct me if I'm wrong).

I've done some research, and the "dyno" claim for APR shows about a 50 HP and 88 ft-lb boost over stock.

GIAC says 40-50hp and 50 ft-lb boost, but I can't find a dyno to see the curves/bands...

What pressure are these chips? Are there variations? 1.0 bar versus... what?

I can't seem to find any ratings or cost for Dahlback chips as 1.8T 150HP isn't an option for starting motor, and I don't know if the finished prodcut ratings are WHP or not...

This car's my DD, has 72k miles on it, and I'd like to keep the highway mileage in the upper 20's if possible. I generally keep my foot out of it once I'm already at freeway speeds (75-80mph). City mileage isn't much of an issue as I spend 50 miles/day on the freeway.

Basically, my question is what will be best for me in the short-term and in the long run? What programmers will re-program for a new turbo, injectors, FPR, etc...

I'd like to be low-13s when I'm done with it, but if all works out well, I'll be moving to an S4 or a ZO6 in a couple of years anyhow. However, I'll likely keep the A4 as a DD if I can.

I'm in San Diego, so any references to a good dealer/tuner in the SD/OC region would be much appreciated... I'd rather not head into LA unless absolutely necessary.

Too bad I don't get my car for another 2 weeks as it's up in the Bay Area and I'm stuck in SD. Ouch.

Thanks guys for all the help!

Well you do have a few choices. You can go GIAC or APR for a chip with the stock turbo. Then when you go to a larger turbo you can either go with a AWE K04 or a PES T28 setup which both use GIAC tuning. If you go with the APR chip you can then upgrade to their stage 3 kit (GT28r).

As for the dahlback chip, your better off calling up TJM for the info you want.
