oil / coolant

i drive a 97 1.8t. any suggestions on a good syn oil (+ viscocity) and a good coolant. i noticed a lot of audis with red looking coolant in their expansion tanks, what stuff is that?

The red stuff is pentosin coolant from the factory. You can' mix that stuff with anything else, it turns to goo.

Good synthetic oils are Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple. I run 5w40 in my car, and it works for me.

What he said... I run the same stuff in my car... also the pink coolant can be purchased at the dealer for cheap. It's called g12 and I think its like 20$-25$ for like a gallon.

Dont buy stuff from the factory anymore, I just learned that this week... coolant cost me $10 for bottles and half price from the dealership, I got the parts at Inter-Auto Parts in kearny mesa, (San Diego, CA)... much cheaper... I saved $200 that day ... my total was $60 for 2 bottles of pentosin G12 coolant, thermostat, Coolant Flange, O-rings and a smog pump.

i use 0w 40 mobil 1... after all the research i did, they told me that this was the best stuff for our cars... and hey it says "european formula" right on the bottle!! :D

Dealers put synthetic 5W-40 nowadays.

I run Mobil 1 5w30 in both my GST and 550 hp A4. But then my Audi doesn't have AC and runs much cooler oil temps since there is no ac core in front of the rad.
