It is 1 of only 2 M1 BMW factory built race cars for the street. I took a picture of the engine bay, looks to be running a twin turbo inline 6.

Sweet! A long long time ago one of my neighbors had a white M1. I can still remember sitting in it and being amazed at how low I was sitting.

Actually it does, just look closer. Here is a picture of a race version of a M1.
These cars were built between the years of 1978 and 1981, which is before most of the other cars that have been mentioned on this post.

Those figures are for the street version of the car, which wasn't a wide body and did not run twin turbos on the inline 6. That is why I said that this was 1 of just 2 race street versions made by BMW which has the race wide body on it.
Here is a picture of their standard street version they made.

BTW right now there are a few normal street version M1's for sale, they are going for about $85k to $100K. The one I took picturs of is worth much more.

They were produced in the late 70's to 81.

I'm surprised and a little disappointed by how many people were unfamiliar with the M1...

Gotta agree with you... Awesome car that I've drooled over for a very long time.
Tracy goes bonkers over them. She's got a few nice 1:64 scale models as well.
I saw one for sale in Portland not too long ago for $65K, not a bad price considering what it is
