1st real welding I have done w/ my MM210
welds came out pretty good, but I still need some practice ;)

I had a spare tire I always bring on my surf trips to Mexico, but I always wanted a real tire mount
so I made a spare tire mount and bed stiffiners for my 87 Yota

I used 1x1" 120 wall tube for the frame

here are some pics

I am getting a tube bender w/ 1.5" die pretty soon so I will be able to make bumpers and cages
my truck will be the test bunny so I'l post future project pics

Andy, I'm in SD right now so if ya want me to do any small projects bring me metal, the parts and some beer and I'll do it

nice project, looks real nice, once you get some jigs you can do some duplicates for all the kids with lifted rangers out of round tubing, and add a hole through the end of one of those studs for a lock to ward off those damn thieves, I love doing fab work. its fun.

Manny: it cost a pretty penny, the MM210 cost almost $1200, then I needed a tank and few other things I did not have from my welding class
and I knew someone on here would mention the test Bunny ;)

Mike: yea I have 2 kids lined up that want prerunner bumpers for their trucks, so may make enough to pay for the tube bender

Nice work!

I was looking at this model 3 Tube Benderhttp://www.vansantent.com/model_3_bender.htm
It seems affordable and the bends come out nice. Which bender are you looking to get?

I got mine from a online suplier on Ebay
starts w/ an O......Welding Supplies or something like that
they have everything set on Buy it Now prices
w/ free shipping
I have talked to many ppl of diff message boards and they say it is the cheapest way to go
I hear if you call them and give them your info over the phone they will give you an even better deal, b/c they do not go through paypal

AUTO UNION: The Model 3 is very nice, but there is a long wait so I decided to go w/ the Pro-Tools 105HD its pretty much the exact same thing
everyone seems to love both benders

jtenright

I will be welding up a pretty intense cage for my 87 Toyota in a few weeks, I just need to get my tube bender.

Then I am gonna start buliding bumpers/skid plates/tire mounts/shock hoops and maybe a few cages for some truck dudes

Tom

did you take classes or just teach yourself?

jtenright
08-18-2004, 08:25 PM
I have taken a class and will be taking a advanced TIG and MIG class in the next year
i learned the basics and theory behind all types of welding including TIG, but what the main focus was Stick
after stick/TIG/gas/brazing...... MIG is very simple and pretty easy

what are U looking to spend?
the HH180 is the SHIT from what I hear and the way to go if U don't wanna spend the 1100 for the MM210
HH180 will do 1/8" easy
MM210 will do 1/4" with ease

Tom

The classes were at CalPoly??

I was looking at the HH180, but it doesn't have the infinitely variable voltage like the lincoln.

That is actually why ppl like the HH180 more

The MM210 has tapped voltage

Miller is coming out with a new mig very soon acually one between 175 and 210
look into it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
