And we decide to head out to the coast.
Stop in at the cheese factory:

Take in some sights:

Have a beer:
http://www.thebucks.net/gallery2/d/1681-1/100_1566.JPG

Now, if you'll notice, my father is looking quite intently out towards the beach.
That's because, hey, those people look like they're having fun out there:

Hell, let's go for a drive along the beach.
There're cars, not just trucks. There's even an A6 out there.
At this point, a wise person would note at this point that Audi's have Quattro, a fact that is about to become rather relevant...

See that barrel on the left...yup, we got about that far before we began sinking.
The ladies having abadoned us even before the car ground to a halt (to save weight, or so they claim), my father walks back to say "Yup, we're screwed".

These people did not help:

These fine upstanding citizens offered to help(though they may have just been trying to impress their girlfriends):

Would you believe this guy makes his living pulling stuck tourists off the beach?:

He was good at it too, had us hooked up and into the parking lot in about 3 minutes:

Sadly, he took off before we could get picture with him.

Lessons learned:
1) V-6 Sontas do not make good dune buggys.
2) You should probably _walk_ the sand before driving on it.
3) It's possible to make a decent living off of dumb tourists.
and
4) Just 'cause an Audi can do it doesn't mean you can.

It looks like the plate on the truck is Oregon and there is a lot of evergreens along the shore line, if so I am gonna have to say you were at the Tillamook Cheese factory (my favorite). I can't remember which beaches allow cars anymore, wasn't Cannon beach was it?

You know, when we were talking to him (before he pulled us out), he said he got $50 to do it.
But once he got us to the parking lot, he unhooked and took off without waiting for me to slip him anything.

I felt kinda bad about it too. I turned around and walked over to my mother to get her to come get a picture of him and his dog, and when we walked back he was gone.

It's my father, we have a way of talking each other into doing things without actually talking each other into it.
The whole lunch we were remarking about driving on the beach, so by the time we left, it seemed the most natural thing in the world.
heh.

Hahahaha..........you have to get a kick out of people like that! I have to admit, being from Canada, I would probably have driven onto the beach as well. ;)

Where in Oregon is that? I'm trying to learn the geography, since my sister just moved to Coos Bay (near North Bend) and my parents are moving to Sisters (near Bend ... no relation to North Bend  )

Sisters is a nice place.
Very touristy. Hot though.

Pacific City is in the 3 Capes area, just south of Cape Kiwanda.
Go west of Portland till you hit the coast, then go south about 15 miles.
