Mazda is touring the country with their Zoom-Zoom Live event. You get to drive the new Miata, the Mazda3, Mazda6, the just released Mazda5, and the RX-8.
It's a free event. There are prizes awarded every hour too. It seems like the prizes are awarded based on how well you drive.
Performance Challenge: Compete against the clock and other participants for fastest time of the day.
Matched Time Gymkhana: Get behind the wheel and see how fast you can come to hitting the target time.
School of Zoom: Learn the ins and outs of handling a true sports car In the RX-8 with a professional instructor.
Jinba Ittai Experience: How smooth are you? Match the predetermined course time and avoid the penalties.
I signed up for 8/27, 9am - Pomona Fairplex (Los Angeles event).
Sorry, SDers, ya gotta drive up.

Far too hot to really enjoy myself, but did get to try the MX-5 and RX-8.
Like the RX-8's looks and the idea of a coupe. The convertible MX-5 handled better, though I never truly floored and (too surprised about oversteer, that's what I get for getting used to an understeering pig of a car) my time suffered for it -- probably would have done better a second time around, but Sun was suffering in the, well, sun, so we beat a path to a theater and watched Brothers Grimm. :)
A very full day, considering earlier in the day we were down in Huntington Beach buying a 1999 V70 T5 wagon at C&H (my campaign for an 850/V70 T5 wagon instead of yet another BMW 740i (http://www.socaleuro.com/forum/showpost.php?p=74721&postcount=5) was obviously a success).

yea was a bit diaplointed in this event! it was much better last year :( I was there for 4 hrs prob got a total of 2.5mins in the cars (seriously 5 runs @ ~30sec a piece)
Ah well.... at least it was free
I put down a 35.7 on the miata course..... I def could have shaved off another .75 sec as I accidently hit 3rd (tip auto as I didn't feel like waiting another 20mins for a stick) and I came into 1 sweeper a lill hot and understeered a bit.....
fun stuff :)
