Military commands drop Indian terms from exercise titles
U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs have struck the word "warrior" from one major exercise and replaced it with "phantom," according to a July internal message from command headquarters.
The bottom line: warrior, chief, brave and Indian are out; phantom, arrow and dart are in.
The complete article is here. (http://aimpoints.hq.af.mil/display.cfm?id=5692)
I agree with not using "redskin", but what's wrong with warrior?

And Fabric Chink.

True... but they also have nothing to do with war.... unless maybe you have a chink in your armor.
I just don't get it because Its not like the ting was called a "savage" or a "beast" or something... it was called "warrior". Is it that offensive to call something a warrior?
People have thin skin and they hide it behind rhetoric.

"Chink" and "honky" are similar to "redskin" in that they're definitley racially denegrating terms. Chief, warrior, and brave are not, on their face, racially denegrating.
As far as I know, no one has actually complained. They changed the names just in case someone might get offended. That's bullshit.

Well now, that's completely wrong ... the 'correct' term would be Native American (PC or not); they sure as hell aren't Indian.
And they don't do drugs, they're just alcoholics. I tried to respect their culture and race, but live in Flagstaff for a few months and that becomes impossible
But I still don't disrespect them with incorrect nomenclature ;)

A little off topic, but your post makes me curious. How do the actions of the people you come in contact with cause you to decide that you no longer have to respect an entire race and culture of people? Just curious as I've seen some pretty horrible shit from every race so how does this work?

No "Indian Casinos" on Navajo land, no sir.
And alcohol is illegal there too, so it is the same as a drug really.
For some reason, a lot of them still do believe drugs are terrible ... but accept alcohol as normal (not that most americans aren't like this anyway). Boils down to custom + genetic predispositions I suppose.

Just the Navajos, really. The stereotype is that they respect their land, are the most noble of tribes due to banning alcohol and casinos and the like ... the truth is, the reservation is horrible in environmental quality from the terrible mining practices. Despite all the tons of aid and criminalization of alcohol, there's still a massive alcoholicsm problem and 48% unemployment. Most everyone we come into contact with at the local police department are Navajo.
That's not to say I dislike their culture more than any others, 99% of human are scum :p
But the idealized image the liberal professors try to force on us about how noble their culture and society is doesn't stand up to real life out there.

It was 'good enough' because he didn't know where the f*ck he was :D
I just hate it because its so wrong. Indians are people from India. There's a billion of them, and they're far different than North Americans.

Sure he did, India, that's why there were so many freakin' Indians all over the place!
=)
I've always liked the term ""First Peoples" in Canada, because it has a more anthropological basis.
But honestly, since the artificial distinction of Native American (and for that matter, the concept of Indian sovereignty) is complete bullshit anyway, I'll quite happily go on calling them Indians(or American Indians, in case someone gets confused between New Mexico and Hindustan).

kinda reminds me how the marine corps would not call a black marine black....we had call them green or dark green....we are now backto referring to them as black.
but i will never call a black person African American, unless of course they actually went through Ellis island and got citizenship, but even then they are americans.
all this PC shit just creates more segregation. hell it's 2005 lets integrate already
