"Some would say that movies, TV, videogames, lazy parents and lax discipline may all be to blame."

video games??? :wtf: im suprised that music wasn't included, since media always blames music for something stupid.

"According to the Canton Health Department, statistics through July show that 104 of the 586 babies born to Canton residents in Aultman Hospital and Mercy Medical Center had mothers between 11 and 19."
Wow... just wow.

17% of the babies born this year are from pre-teens and teens.

I would like to know how many of the teens 11-19 were married... to add a little context to the situation there.

Why, you think they're cheating on their husbands?

heh.

Um, no. Jackass. :P

The reporting of "teen pregnancies" can be misleading. In this case, teen pregnancies are defined as pregnancies by women aged 11-19. Well, women 18 and 19 are ADULTS (although young adults), and should be reported as a different category. Additionally, women who are pregnant should also be reported differently, as their children are "legimate" (I hate that word).

So, what I'm wonder is how many of these teen births are to un-wed mothers under 18 years old.

"There are 490 female students at Timken High School, and 65 are pregnant"
So, at least half of the 104 births(ages 11-19) were probably to un-wed mothers.
Given that the median female marriage age is 25, I'd guess that a signifigant portion of the remaining 40 were unmarried as well.

That still doesn't account for married teens. I'm not sure how the social climate in Canton, OH is, but in some states, married teens in high school isn't the rarity it is in CA.

Blah, who cares... this article is 2 months old now.

Regardless, maybe some family planning should be introduced into the school there.
