Ok so after I dropped my car off I felt a bit uneasy about Miramar VW/Audi...... but it was just the window regualators and easy just right........

I drop the car off and thier "courtesy shuttle" drops me off, and agrees to pick me up later..... Well later comes they call me car is done, but our "courtesy shuttle" can't pick you up..... I'm stuck at work and forced to ask my NEW boss for a ride :( We get there and service closed at 6pm (web site says 8pm) and everyone in the shwo room is trying to wash thier hands of me.......So I knock on the door of the biggest office with the BIG leather chair (I figure this is the guy to help me!) he tracks down an unwilling person (who then warmed up and got my paper work and I was on my way)

I get home and inspect!

1.) the donut gasket between the speaker and the door card in on my passenger floor (forgot to put it back then prob figured I'm not takin the door card off again...)

2.) Passenger side inside doro handle doesn't work...guy forgot to reattach the J hood to the handle when putting the door card back on...

3.) the Driver's side outside lock next to the handle freely comes in and out of the door (I had to put a piece of Clear tape over it as not to loose it when takin quick corners!)

So now I'm sketched! I'm not bringing my car back there! I brought it in for a routine job and now I have 3 other problems

The speaker gasket no porb I can fix....
The passenger J hood door handle I can pull that apart and hook it back up...

But the Driver's door lock, I read my beltley and if you open the door and pop out this plug

http://www.agthompsonfamily.com/vw/WindowRegulator14.jpg

Then tighten/loosen this adjuster screw

http://www.agthompsonfamily.com/vw/WindowRegulator16.jpg

That is what hold the lock cylinder in.....

http://www.agthompsonfamily.com/vw/WindowRegulator18.jpg

Well it doesn't work now :( I tightened it up as tight as I could get it and nothing it still slides out! So my guess is the Tech tightened it realizeed it some how broke the mechanism and said Oh shit I'm not fixing that!

So here I am.... i can fix this myself, VWOA (who I called this am) says I have to bring it back to Miramar (I am not!) I want to bring it to City, but they will not warrenty this work as frankly its not thier problem......So I'm gonna try and talk to City/ The local VWOA rep (anyone have his/her number?) and see if I can have the work done at City.... otherwise I'm gonna hafta fix this on my own...... thank god I got friday off the list!

Shave rear wiper
install getto mister
install getto antenna
Fix driver's lock
Fix passenger door handle
Wash/wax

anyone have any insight?

that one works backwards, put some pressure on it like you were going to pull it out, and turn the screw driver counter-clockwise, you should feel it grab and you wont be able to pull it out

unfortunately, its not really just miramar. dealers in general suck. they don't take the same care that enthusiasts do. I had just as many problems at Hoehn with my audi. they scratched the paint, then while getting that fixed they managed to crack my front lip. plus, they always fucked with my system and watched videos. after i got miramar trained, i always got good service from them. for VW's though, Tony at City definitely rawks.

its actually the service writer and the tech that works on it, that makes the difference

because i know one of the old members works at Miramar, but you have to request him ... but i dont know if i trust the rest of the people there

just find a tech/service writer that you trust and stick with em

San diegan....San Diegon.....San Diegoin?

San Diegai? When in Rome...

Another Miramar horror story. Hopefully word will continue to spread so as to save newbs from them. Like everyone, I have horror stories, too, but won't go on about them here, haha. Good thing your stuff is a relatively easy fix at least. But how sad is that? Fixing it after takign it for service...

still doesn't work :( I talked to the Service manager Scott, he has me set up for an appointment friday am..... I'm very reluctantly bringing my car back friday.....

I'm gonna pull the passenger door card off tommorow and see if they broke the J hook on the inside handle.....if not I'll fix that myslef and have them just look at the drivers door....

I figure the less they touch the less they can mess up....

I know there are prob some great techs there but man! the guy who did this was in way too much of a rush! now I have to spend most of my day off at the dealer bitching at them

that bolt rotates a thin metal rocker that holds the lock cylinder in place. the tech probably overtightened the bolt. its fairly easy to turn the bolt in too far and it either breaks the rocker piece or pops it off and it falls to the bottom of the door. still doesnt make much sense though since there's absolutely no need to touch that bolt, or remove the lock cylinder for that matter, in order to do the window regulators. so i don't understand why the tech would even be messing with that bolt. i can't believe the tech left the donut seal on the floorboard though. forgetting to put it back is one thing. leaving it on the floorboard and not having the common sense to throw the evidence in the trash is just flatout dumb. :D

When I had my Beetle I brought it to Miramar and had no problems at all. I guess that's because I am friends with the tech who worked on it. :D

I'm not sure Why he/she would mess with the door lock either? maybe they bumped the mechanism when reinstlling the wondow track card? its wierd but the lock def did NOT do that before!

and not hooking up the passagner doro handle? its like WTF? you think they would have at least tried to open the door from the inside to see if it works

Your best bet? Do the work yourself. VW customer service isn't worth a shit anymore.

Looks like they had the trainee working on your car, Looks like he did the long way to do a window reg., is to take out that bolt, the lock cyl. so you can release the toothed cable attatched to the handle and take the door latch out still attatched to the inner door bulkhead, I always popped out the two plastic rivets and left all that shit alone. He probably did overtighten it and break it. So what did you get for free? A detail? Service? Tank of gas? DON'T let them off that easy! Seriously, do the work yourself and get one of us to help you. I dont mind helpin a fellow dubber out!

Yea I read up in the Bentley and a DIY on the Vortex and I was confused as to why they would remove the door handle..... as you can just gain access from the other side via popin out those rivets....

Got nothing for free, I just wanted to get the hell outta there with my car in 1 piece :) I would have fixed it myself but being they were on my way to work and they "Said" they could shuttle me and get the car done in a day I was like WTF why not... My car is outta warrenty (61K) so I'm doing everything else myself (got a VAG-com its been a greta help!)

I have a nasty exhaust rattle.....I think its coming from the resinator, may trade services with a Texer for some life access next weekend to finally find the problem!

-Thanks for the help guys/girls its been a learning experience ;)

good info to know. I've had only good experiences with Miramar, but the only reason I take a car there is for alignment or A/C work... guess those techs are decent.
