both are slightly kaput? i guess?

well mine wont start, wont start as in ignition wont work and the steering column is locked turning right. now before you say jiggle the wheel and turn the key, no that doesnt work this is LOCKED up not even out big burly AAA man could turn the wheel. so heres the deal, i pull into taco bell perfectly fine, pull into the spot even and i put everything down parking brake lights etc. and i proceed to turn off the engine by turning the key. well i turn the key towards myself 100% and guess what? the car still runs with the key in the OFF position. yes running in off so then i put the key forward and pull it to off again still no avail. and with the engine running i couldnt pull out the key even if it was in the off postion. so now i try to back up and go through the drive through window and i stall in the space. well at least it wasnt anywhere else because at this time i am turning my wheel as i stall and it locks. so with wheels turned right and car stalled and ignition not letting go of my key, we sit and mess with the igniton for awhile. not the key hole has become like sludge to turn, also getting the key in is like pushing against all the pins in the mechanism. and my wheels do not turn at all. but the car does turn to the accesory position no prob. we got the tow from AAA to my friends house so thats now where the bimmer sits as i await to see if i can even get an estimate on what the problem is and how much itll cost me to get fixed.

on another note after the incident i attempted to pul off the steering wheel and disengage the steering lock and hope for the best. well i cant even get to the steering lock stuff.

if anyone has heard of this before i doubt it but hey help me out please!:(

I'd start with swapping the ignition switch. It's not expensive, and something you can certainly DIY.

just plug in an electrical portion and turn it with a screw driver, odds are you need an electrical portion AND housing too
