Can anyone shed some light on the benefits of having a Virtual Private Server, verus a shared load type server?
Looking at moving our hosting company since the current one sucks, and I've seen a few offering VPS. Just thought I'd check to see what it's all about.

VPS allocates a fixed set of resources to your account, regardless of the other virtual servers on the machine. Shared load means a machine performs a balancing act with the several to hundreds of web sites it hosts.
VPS gives you for all intents and purposes a dedicated "machine", where the web and application server configuration can be customized, external applications installed, etc. It is much more robust and will not suffer from resource hogging by other accounts.
