CHP Portable Smog Stations...

On the AWJunkie forums, they posted that the CHP has set up various check points where they have "portable" smog stations :( Apparently, there is one squad car and a truck with workers where they pull people at random and pull onsite smog inspections. LA and SD are the only places reported so far, but the one in SD is located on Convoy street in front of the police station and one somewhere in Chula Vista.

Looks like Cali has figured out yet another way to target smog illegal cars :confused:

Get an all wheel drive car that way they cannot put your car on the smog dyno. Just have to pass idle sniffer.

I'm surprised it's taken them this long.

I suppose they had to wait for the public to really not care about wholesale violations of the Fourth Amendment before they pulled this one...

They used to put one of those things outside UCSD every once in awhile while I was there. They would put it on Gilman drive as you come into the campus near Via La Jolla.

I feel like this is some sort of invasion of privacy, isn't it? Wouldn't they need some sort of order/reason to do this? Couldn't you refuse to be smogged on the spot?

If I found myself stuck in one of these, I'd be done for.
