My sister Heather and her fiancee Chris lived in New Orleans, she was an elementary school teacher in the inner city there. Apparently hurricane warnings are commonplace there during the season, and the common thing is to pack an overnight bag and head to Baton Rouge for a "hurricane party", then head back the next day. So that's what they did.. packed one change of clothes each, left her car behind, and took his truck out of town for the night.

The good news is they're okay. The bad news: Their house and her car are under 9 feet of water, and her school is under 20 feet. Needless to say, everything is a loss.

I'm located in San Diego, where they're originally from, and it looks like they'll be relocating here. There's nothing there for them anymore -- no jobs, no home, nothing worth rebuilding.

Anyways, they're starting over from scratch, so I'm trying to collect furniture and basic stuff for them to get them going once they get a place to live. So far I've got a bed for them.

If anyone has furniture in storage, or that they're otherwise not using, that they'd be willing to donate here in San Diego, please contact me. Lamps, tables, chairs, couches, bureaus, dressers, desks, bookcases... Anything is appreciated!

I live in Spring Valley and I'm keeping the stuff here for them in my garage. Please contact me at g60racer@aol.com or you can call my cell#, 619-417-3872.
Any duplicate/extraneous items I recieve on their behalf will be donated to the Red Cross for other Katrina victims.

Thanks in advance
