Switchblade key

Is there are new style switchblade key similar to the newer VW keys? I searched Ebay and only saw switchblade keys similar to the older looking VW keys. Does audi have a newer looking key too? Can older ones be swapped to the newer FOB?

Yes, you need to find the correct size, and someone who will cut them.

So it's not as easy as swapping an older VW switchblade to the newer style fob? That was a simple swap of the key piece and recoding of the clicker.

the buttons changed a little in 2002 and got a little chrome bar accross the bottom, I fabbed one with a filed down key insert to fit my MK3. The remote is another story, I'm not sure if you can use the later swich blades in a car that has the earlier ones or program them period to anything other then the car it was intended for I.E. your current key will not fit the rectangle later style remote piece.

just to make sure I'm on the right page.

my 2000 passat came with this.

and I was able to remove the laser cut key (there's a pin that holds it in) and put it into this.

And then follow the key programming instructions to make the buttons work with my car.

That's not possible on Audi's?

Is the one that came with my '02 Jetta

yeah from 02 on, VWs came with that one. older style were easily swapped to this new one by replacing the key part then doing a reprogramming. I would assume Audi is the same??

If you’re looking for a Switchblade FOB I have one of the ones with the squared off buttons and the chrome key loop at the bottom (02 style) with the MK III key already installed. All you need to do is take it to a key shop and have it cut. I was looking for $30 obo. If your interested let me know.

Say I answer this tread from the home page and didn't see it was for an Audi. The key I have has the VW symbol on it.

Thanks, I've got one with the VW logo. Trying to find one with the Audi logo. Which don't seem to be up for sale as much on ebay as the VW ones.
