The passangers were actually watching the landing from their seats via Direct TV! Crazy, watching your own possible demise on TV how 21st century!

"It was absolutely terrifying, actually. Seeing the events broadcast made it completely surreal and detached me from the event," said Zachary Mastoon, a musician heading home on the Burbank-to-New York flight. "It became this television show I was inextricably linked to. It was no longer my situation, it was broadcast for everyone to see. It only exacerbated the situation and my fear."
That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the headline ...
Except I think it would be a GOOD thing. Obviously, the pilots will always notify passengers of a problem with landing gear/weight/storms/engine failure, etc. You can't keep passengers in the dark about that, you have to tell them to be prepared for a crash landing, etc.
Watching it on TV, though, would free up any updates from the pilots, inform the passengers a bit more about the situation (so they aren't left fearing the worst), and even divert their attention from the fear by allowing them to focus on the TV footage, rather than being consumed with worry and all that.
Of course, if what Brad Pitt in Fight Club says about the purpose of oxygen is true, then maybe they should have an emergency morphine/ether supply to quash all worries :D

Wow, i wish we were informed like that when we crash landed over.... oh wait... too much info... Back on topic, "Realizing the risks, he started taking swigs from another passenger's vodka tonic." That would deffinately have been me. lol
