Yeah everytime I try to do a ride with you guys, you change it at the last minute in which I am all ready in route---hour drive--- I get there, no one there.... Is this the real meeting place this time????

Well, since this is where all the mountain bikers are posting, I figured I could get some good advice.... I am looking into getting a new bike, but I am only looking to spend about $400-$500.

My main interests are having disc brakes and front suspension.....any suggestions on makes? Is this possible in this price range? I am not looking to get a Toy R Us bike either! ;)

Thanks,
Chris Forney

Not going to happen Chris. A sub $500 hardtail with disc is going to have extremely crappy components. You have 2 options: the first being a decent hardtail with V brakes which can be had for <$500 or up your budget a couple hundred and get a decent hardtail with mechanical disc brakes.

Here is a thread that answers all your questions (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=56148&highlight=%24500)

hmm best bang for the buck bike in that area I can think of is the Specialized P series but your gonna need at least $600 and that will only get you mechanical disks

Thanks for your help guys! But for the bad news:tdown: hahaha

I guess I will just have to up the $$$, someone told me that Performance Bikes in Escondido has some pretty good sales right now, so I'll have to give that a shot. I will keep ya posted...I might need some more help.

You can get a bike close to that $500 price. You can look on ebay and buy a used one, but you need to know what you are buying. Or there is Supergo, at the end of the year, they have their blow-out sales. I bought a nice beach cruising bike---that was priced at $1600 for $750 out the door--including tax.
