So the company that makes the blackberry did sme sort of patent infringement and now the customers are going to be crewed by service being shut down?
I don't fully understand how that is allowable without reimbursement or replacement of some kind to the consumer. Anyone care to respond?

well...the people putting out Blackberry.....they sure do have their ass in "jam" :D :D :D :p ;)
Ouch! Before moving here, I lived in Waterloo, Ontario (R.I.M.'s headquarters). I have a few buddies that work there actually, so I'll have to do some diggin' because this is interesting.
I have no use for these sort of "devices", so it doesn't really concern me. I'm not that high up on the geek-meter. :D

Guess I may not be getting that shiny new blackberry afterall.
This has actually been going on for awhile and the patent holder has nothing more than a bunch of other patents for wireless email. Seriously, who the hell grants a patent for a device to check email wirelessly? Like that is some unique idea or something. This is one of those, you may have thought of it too and you may have actually made a device but I beat you through the beaurocracy cases.
Whats sad is NTP just wants blackberry shutdown. I don't even think they want any money or anything.

Well, after having to deal with their software that 'integrates' with Exchange, I couldn't care less. :p Their products have caused me nothing but problems with support at my last two jobs. Of course, the users in question had something to do with that too.

Exchange 2003 SP2 + Windows Mobile 5 enabling PUSH email should alleviate some of the integration headache. :) (that is assuming NTP doesn't go after MS too)

A new version of Exchange has _never_ alleviated an integration headache.

(In fact, a new version of Exchange has rarely alleviated anything)
