I was wondering how much would a good paint job go for?
Im thinking of painting my car the dark grey that the jetta GLI comes in and the newer golfs.
Also how much should a good paint retouching go for?
I have lots of rock chips on my mirror and my front end and maybe thinking of doing that but im not sure yet.

A good paint job will be about $3000

The color is Platinum Grey, its a really nice color, but scratches on my girlfriends car are easy to spot.
Ive heard of people doing all bodywork themselves, and just taking it to Maaco to get the paint layed and clearcoated. Some even tape it off themselves because Maaco doesn't do the best job in the world. It is a cheap alternative, I think around $300-500.
Down side is ive heard both positive and negative feedback on their paintjobs.

yeah i dont really trust maaco, but my car chipped up bad in the front. Ive heard people get paint jobs for like 1000 to 1500 ish and the platinum grey is great too.
If i have to pay like 3000 for a paint job i might as well just sell my car and get a 1.8t
ive gone to maaco and they painted my rubber seal for free (i didnt even have to ask, they just did).....ive gone to earl schieb and that actually came out really good even the prepwork, but i had someone bump one of my bumpers and the paint cracked because they didnt add flex agent to the paint

i heard if i prep my car myself( sand, prime, exc.) its cheaper because the prep is where most of the money is spent

Yes, But it is the bulk of the work. Doing bodywork yourself, you can guarantee some funky reflections.

If you aren't familiar with body work then I would try and prep the car. First you will have to fix all the dents and scratches yourself then do all the priming and what not. A paint job is only as good as what is under it.
