I am just about ready to sink some cash into the tranny. My plan of action is the Peloquin with a clutch upgrade and lightweight flywheel. Any recommendations? I think the parts will be bought by Christmas and installed shortly thereafter. Thanks for the input...

and what's up to all the people who may remember me on this site. It's been a while since my last post her!!

When the clutch went on my 97 GLX, I upgraded the clutch (Stage III Kevlar sprung disk) and flywheel (machined OEM). IMO, it was definitely worth the time and effort to lighten the flywheel. The revs climb much faster, but they also drop off much faster too (took me a while to "re-learn" the rev matching technique). I didn't have the $$$$ at the time to install a LSD. Everyone that I have spoke to that has a LSD (Peloquin, Quaiffe etc.) mentioned that it should have been their FIRST mod.

I'm not sure what VW you have, but if it is a VR6, you may also want to consider replacing the timing chains and guides when the transmission is dropped.

i have a sachs super clutch and a lightened flywheel in my 96 ABA, I love it, they have approx 50K hard miles on them, no probs. the lightened flywheel WILL cause some torque loss. The engine will also get into the power band quicker though and rev matching is easy.

Sorry... didn't take the time to update the sig when I signed back on.

1.8T 2000 Beetle. Running about 200 bhp and plans for 250 whp in the next year or so. I need a tranny setup that will maximize the power I plan to have, so what clutch will be very reliable at 250 whp and 300 tq?

I have Autotech's Stage 1 kit which includes Sachs OEM Vr6 Clutch kit, and Autotech lightened 10lb flywheel. I believe it can hold up to 300 ft/lbs of torque. The pedal feel is not harsh at all like some performance clutches out there. Its perfect for our 1.8T vehicles.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check out the ECS site and see what they have. The Autotech was what I was leaniing toward because the flywheel is 10lbs instead of 14 and the Sachs Power Clutch will hold all that my engine will put out. Thanks for the suggestions, and anyone else who has the Autotech setup... is it all positive or any problems?

I think the Autotech SACH setup would work great.

Here's something to keep in mind, you could get a flywheel/clutch setup that holds 400hp, but you'll also have a really buff left leg ;)

so my suggestion is to keep to a setup that is within the area of power you expect, and not more ...

the OEM setup is going to be the easiest to use, and if you go Stage1, you'll be ok ...

i leighter weight flywheel can create some smog issues ...less load on the engine give off obnixous readings when the car is on the sniffer...this has actually been tested over and over so watch it come smog time...dont believe me ask some of the honda guys that are having issues with leight weight flywheels on their cars and why they cant seem to pass the sniffer test

I never heard that rumor, Mine has passed no prob but different parts affect different motors in different ways so its entirely possible. I dont think many 1.8T's have come up for smog yet so that is something to check into..........
