i need the vw special tool to compress the rear brake piston on a mkIV ( or any tricks if you got one) asap. im in the middle of changing my brakes. fronts are done and everything is off on the rear but i cant compress this damn piston.... HEEELLPPP!!!

bah, I don't work on actuating calipers, pita! I know on Audis ya need the Audi tool.............

I just ordered the correct tool from ECS this past sunday, shipment coming next Tuesday via UPS!

Harbor Freight carries a decent set of piston caliper retractors. I've used them a couple of times with no problems. They were recommende to me by Mike Kim, IIRC.

I believe NAPA has the tool on one of those rental things where you buy it and then return it and you get all your money back.
Basically you need to rotate the piston as it goes in. However you do that is up to you to figure out but just push em in a bit and rotate a bit and push in a bit and rotate a bit etc etc.
I've seen guys that have used a big C clamp to squeeze the piston in a little while they worked it in a circle using some channel locks.

hey, thanks for all the response guys... i did try all the ghetto ways first including the c clamp bit. figured that one out before it was even posted, heh... didnt really work for me though. anyways, i picked up the tool from potterman and it was here the next day with a bag of m&m's... wow what great service. well yeah, its all taken care of now. thanks again
