Earlier this year, BMW and Toyota confirmed a four-part joint venture mostly focusing on increasing improving vehicle efficiency using fuel cells, lightweight materials and better battery technology. Also tucked into the announcement was a "feasibility study" for a shared platform to underpin a future midsize "sports vehicle."

In terms of the latter, it seems that things have stepped up from the feasibility stage to the conceptual stage, as Motor Trend reports we could see a pair of new sports car concepts debut later this year in at the Tokyo Motor Show. There isn't much information about the new program, but the article suggests the sports cars could be all-wheel drive hybrids, with electric motors powering the front wheels and a gas engine powering the rear wheels. While a partnership between Toyota and BMW might not lend itself to a catchy portmanteau like "Toyobaru," here's hoping it will bear fruit that is as exciting as the ones produced by the Toyota/Subaru tie up. BMW-Toyota sports car heading towards Tokyo debut originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 20 May 2013 18:44:00 EST. Today in 1873 Levi Strauss patented copper-riveted canvas pants. Eventually switching to blue denim, those tough pants became the jeans we all wear all the damn time. Jeans have also been oddly influential for cars, with several cars sporting jeans-based themes, even to this day.

Bavarian tuners ABT have done another job on the Audi R8 V10, pumping up the 5.2-liter FSI V10 from 525 horsepower to 600 hp, and torque from 391 pound-feet to 406 lb-ft. With 50 more horsepower than the R8 V10 Plus - but not the extreme weight-loss scheme - ABT claims a 0-62 mile per hour run of 3.5 seconds, the same as the R8 V10 Plus, and a top speed for the mid-engined coupe of 198 miles per hour "is no problem at all."

Managing all that speed are the aero tweaks provided by a comprehensive body kit including a rear wing, a lowered and beefed-up suspension, a stainless steel exhaust and 19-inch wheels in two different designs.
The press release below has a few more bits of info on the matter. And while ABT hasn't put a price on the Audi upgrades, but it's safe to say that nearly 200 mph in an R8 won't come cheap.Continue reading Audi R8 V10 gets tuned up by ABT

If you’re like me, you’ve probably scratched your head wondering why your nice new Audi isn’t smart enough to stream through your BT phone! I Mean AD2P isn’t exactly a new technology! So imagine my disappointment when my 2010 Q7 could do everything under the sun, but would not stream my music. As if to add insult to injury, it plays my individual ringtones through the MMI. Yes I have SD slots and a media drive but it doesn't show my playlists, and frankly, managing music on so many different locations is a pain. My parents 2013 A6 does stream audio, but alas, it looks like 2013 is the year Audi started.

Below I’ve detailed out my trials and errors on figuring out how to get my iPhone 5 to play through my MMI. I scoured the forums and reviewed "expert" opinions. And in the end, I think I’ve (they've) found a great solution (maybe even for android and windows phones).

Step 1 . . . Lets order some parts!
My buddy has a similar Q7 and he already had a BT solution that worked for him, so I ordered those part, plus some of my own just in case. Amazon Prime, after all, is my best friend!

AMI to 3.5mm $27.30

Miccus Mini Jack BT Receiver$38.99

So far this was looking to be a simple solution! 2 days later (Thank you Prime) I received both, the cable and receiver (about the size of a pack of gum). I proceeded to charge the receiver, once complete I plugged everything into the car. Pairing was quick and painless, and sure enough, MMI notices the AUX input and I'm streaming away! Phone connected to the Audi for phone calls, and the Receiver for music. It was a beautiful thing. Made some calls, received some calls. The phone swapped when it needed and returned to what it was doing without missing a beat! This solution would work with any phone that can stream music I imagine. BUT . . . lets face it, I paid money to use my MMI, and dammit, I wanna use it to stream my music also! Plus, although the receiver has an estimated 8 hour playing time, who want to have to charge another thing? It would be nice if it played through the micro USB, but it doesn't, so you would have to unplug from the glove box and charge it every so often. But still, not a bad solution for $70.

Streaming Take 2 . . . To Dongle, or not to Dongle?
AMI to USB $24.99

Why couldn't I just use the USB cable and plug in a USB BT receiver. It would do everything the above mentioned and no longer need external power! I thoughi I was onto something except the only decent ones that I was finding were around $90. I just didn't feel like spending that kind of cash on a what if scenario. I imagine there are drivers that might need to be installed, so I'm not confident it would even work. So scrap that, I'll keep the USB cable for future upgrades to the MMI if needed. Money not completely wasted in the grand scheme of things! But What If . . .

Streaming Take 2 . . . errr . . . 3 . . . I wanna pluginto your dock!
AMI to iPod $16.81
BT Docking Station Adapter $13.99

So I bought the iPod adapter and plugged my phone in (of course with another adapter, F*cking Apple). Low and behold . . . there is my phone on the MMI. It was a beautiful thing. Music played, calls interrupted, it was perfect . . . almost . . . where the hell was my phone . . . oh yeah, stuck in the glovebox! Should I buy an extension and route it through the maze of a dashboard and center console? No way, too much effort, and then it hit me! If I use the iPod cable, and get a BT dock adapter I should be able to connect and not have to worry about charging right? WRONG!?!?!?!?! This was a waste of time, money, and typing! The iPod cable looks for an actual device. If that device is not present, it turns off the connection! Doesn't even show up on the MMI. But, there is hope for this connection. There are a couple of websites that create custom cables for this type of connectivity. Here http://a2dp4audi.netmagi.com/ and here http://www.audia2dp.com/. From what I could tell, they've adapted the cables to make the car think it's just an AUX, not an actual device. Powers and everything, so it's not a bad solution . . . but it just wasn't what I had in mind for cost, at least not in terms of return! I wanted more dammit, I wanted my car to have the 2013 software . . . but I couldn't find a way to do that either . . . but I did find this . . .

Streaming Take 4 . . . I want it all . . . with a Happy Ending!
ViseeO Tune2Air WMA1000 $94.00

I found this little gem on a car forum similar to SCE. While utilizing the iPod plug, it is connected as a device so MMI does not disconnect it. Pairing was simple, my phone showed up on my MMI after a little wait. All controls through the MMI fuctioned, and I can now scroll through my playlists and everything as if I were holding the phone. Best part, my phone sits in the cup hold, next to my hand (birds singing). All functions work, phone still connects to both Audi and adapter. Calls work all around. I'm extremely happy with this solution. It also is supposed to work with Android and Windows phones. Searching for reviews for Android, it seems to be a bit buggy. ViseeO blames that on the multitude of OS out there for Android. My buddy, who suggested the first solution had ordered one and will see how it works with his Windows phone. I guess I can give an update whenever that happens.

Bugs . . .
**There is sometimes a delay between the MMI selection and the actual reaction on the phone. Similar to when BMW i-Drive stops to think while you keep spinning the wheel. It's only happened a couple of time, so I'm not worried about it.
**There have been a couple of times where I need to re Pair the phone and adapter. I think this was caused by me leaving the car for only a short while. The adapter stays on after the car is turned off, and then auto shuts down based on inactivity. For some reason upon returning to the car the adapter was still on so thought it was connected, while my phone had disconnected because of range, and never reconnected. In those 2 instances I just needed to delete the device and reconnect. Still, not a big deal!

In summary, the two best solutions for me were the AMI to mini jack and the BT receiver. And my favorite of the two, the AMI to iPod and Tune2Air. Neither are perfect solutions, the Tune2Air allows for a seamless integration with your phone and MMI. This is what I could come up with . . . at least until Audi has an update for all of us! This was done through Audi MMI 3G, I guess there are different issues with 2G. Also, my review was done just through playing my music library, not streaming music like Pandora. I'll try that out and report back.

I searched to see if there had been a main topic on this issue and couldn't find one! If there is already a thread than :doh2:

I have for sale a beautiful set of 17x8 & 17x9 BBS LMs with staggered lips that were just refinished (haven't been mounted). These are 5x114.3 on adapters made by Fred Goeskein in the Orange County. The adapters are 72.56mm to fit the BMW hub and have a 82mm outer lip to fit the wheels perfect with no hubcentric rings needed. The offset of the wheels is et40 but with the 5x120 adapters the final offset of the wheels are both et 5, so it's decently aggressive. You can also use TUV approved wobble bolts if you're putting them on a 5x112 car!

The wheels have just been pulled apart, stripped (LM's are notorious for the clear coat cracking, so it's stripped off and polished) and repolished! The work was done by the well known U.S. Wheels in San Diego. The wheels had some curb rash, and U.S. Wheel was able to get 95% of it removed and polished. You can see a few TINY spots that they couldn't get without adding metal, which I would NOT do. I've enclosed pics to show you how minor they are.

The faces are very nice! I've included pics of the nicks on the gold that are of any note and there's only 4 spots... all on different wheels. You really cannot see any blemishes unless your face is down right in the wheel well. From standing 2ft away they look mint.

A note on the adapters:

If you want to run these on an 5x120 they come with adapters to do so. These adapters are made from USA-made ALCOA 6061-T6 billet aluminum . They use the stock lugs to mount the billet adapter the same as any wheel would and then have studs pressed out from the back of the adapter and have a perfectly machined hubcentric lip to make the wheels dead nuts center and very securely mounted. So they are hubcentric to the hub and the wheel. They are so perfect you would never know you were running adapters if you didn't mount them yourself.

Fred is one of the best in the business and has been making adapters for over 30 years for drag cars and anything else you can think of. You can check out his work here. www.wheeladapter.com

I need these gone so I'm only gonna ask $1,800/obo for the wheels, adapters and mounting hardware (adapters were $400 alone plus the refinishing that was just done). I am willing to ship, but you would have to pay the actual shipping cost for material and shipping charges. And NO the wheels are not cheaper with the adapters.... think of them as just thrown in if you want them.

I probably won't be able to get on here more than once a day so for a faster response please email me at art.ruisenor@gmail.com

These are the only nicks worth that I can see on the lips... each is on a different wheel

This wheel has some break dust on it, the gold color is typically very bright clean

From 2ft away you can't really see any blemishes

Other than grime the adapters are 100%!

Here they are mounted on my car, obviously before I refinished them.... and with horribly sized tires. The tires would be more well suited for an import. I was just too poor (was married at the time) to get correctly sized tires. These are all BEFORE the clear coat was stripped and the wheels were polished.

As BMW prepares to introduce its first-ever front-wheel drive car, the upcoming 1 Series GT, it looks like there will be at least two versions of the car. A conventional-looking hatchback was spotted testing late last year, but now we see an extended-length version in order to accommodate a third row of seats.

Judging by these spy shots, this 1 Series GT prototype has received an extended wheelbase, larger rear doors and more upright D-pillars compared to our previous spy shots (show in the gallery below) all with the aim of creating additional passenger and cargo space. Like the smaller 1 Series GT, this longer model would likely carry over the same powertrain options, which are expected to consist of three- and four-cylinder engines, a hybrid system and the choice of front- or all-wheel drive. The 1 Series GT could make its debut this fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but we might have to wait until next year to see the people mover.BMW 1 Series GT spied in 7-seat trim originally appeared on Autoblog on Mon, 20 May 2013 10:14:00 EST. When a car manufacturer sets out to create a car to celebrate an anniversary, they sometimes end up with a beige box that now has some new headrests and then they call it a day. Thankfully, not all car companies think like that, as we were shown with the Aston Martin CC100 Concept today.
And it's a big one! A limited edition Lamborghini LP670-4 SuperVeloce. He must have crashed on turn 1 out of Copenhagen because the race literally JUST started (early) this morning. Anyhow, looks like super wet conditions, oily roads after tons of sun, summer performance tires, hamfistedness, and 670 horsepower were to blame. Doesn't look like it will buff out. But seriously, why did you turn?

BMW itself says it is making "Precise modifications to the design" of the facelifted, sixth-generation 5 Series, and this is the result. The 2014 5 Series will come in four flavors - sedan, Touring, Gran Turismo and ActiveHybrid 5 - the biggest news probably the addition of a diesel engine for the US market.

When they go on sale in August, the 528i sedan will start at $50,425, a $1,700 increase over the 2013 model, and if you want xDrive that adds $2,300 to the price across the model range. The 535d employs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder diesel with 255 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque and starts at $56,025. BMW portends "substantial fuel efficiency gains over its gasoline-fueled counterpart," but the exact numbers won't come until closer to the on-sale date. The $64,825, top-dog 550i holds pat with 4.4-liter, twin turbo V8, with output upped to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft - an increase of 45 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque. The outputs haven't changed on the twin-turbo four-cylinder in the 528 nor the 3.0-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine in the 535, and *all prices include the $925 destination charge. The engines are also fitted with a coasting mode that uncouples the powertrain when rolling downhill.

Outside there are new "contour lines" for the grille and air intakes, slimmer taillights and elements that accentuate the car's width - as if that were necessary. Xenon adaptive headlights will be standard along with side indicator lights on the rearview mirrors, the options list adds LED headlights, the Luxury Line and Modern Line packages. The former package adds chrome trim to certain exterior elements, the latter adds matte chrome trim.

Inside will be more storage and more cup holders, additional luggage capacity in the 5 Series GT, an optional rear seat entertainment system that puts tablets on the front seatbacks, and a touchpad iDrive controller.

There's a lot more besides which you can read about in the press release and video below, and you can pair words with images in the four high-res galleries above and below.Continue reading 2014 BMW 5 Series starts at $50,425* and gets a new diesel, 5 Series GT starts at $60,925* [w/video]
